ipsc production....i meant standard

there is only one STI that you can use in production,...and that would be the GP6.
Anything else is either standard or Open,.and major or minor PF>

Actually, there is discusson on the global village about implementing the box for production soon, (they want to limit capacity) but they report that every gun with factory OEM mags currently on the list fits in the box. Dunno if it will find itself to a rule or not, that remains to be seen.

My personal opinion on capacity is that should be same for all in all divisions except Open. There is a big difference when someone is running in Standard with 19-20 rounds compare to 15, where there is 17 rounds stage :)

I think the 15rd or 16rd number was thrown around.

That is a easy fix. Spend the money and get the better mags ;)

It's all about the equipment we choose to shoot with. If someone in Limited (USPSA) is running mags that hold a few more rounds than you.. that's your loss. You have to choose the most competitve equipment to have every advantge.

**EDIT** You beat me to it Mobil1

I think he is referring to Production division,....a mag limit capacity was talked about...

it appears to be an attempt to decelerate the production race,....how many rounds can I get into my production gun,.etc.....ie: some mags after breaking in can hold 1 rd more than advertised. Some of the mags would eventually be sticking out the bottom of the gun like a limited gun,..or Open...

well, if you are talking Standard Division, the gun has always had to fit into the box with the mag in it. Canada has been fortunate to have an exemptions which allows single stack users to use 10 round mags which makes it the same for everyone. Stock 140 STI mags in the gun will fit the box no problem. however start adding different base pads then you get a problem.
I use Dave M's mag bases on my 140 mags. i can tell you that if i was hooting standard, the gun would not fit in the box with them on (note i shoot open and they are will below 170 mm so no problems.) However if i change the pads and put on the stock pads they gun fits just fine in the box.

So now unless you are using 170 mm mags in standard division, your STI gun, with 140 mm stock mags, will fit into the box no problem at all.

So now care to elaborate on what you are referring to?

Not exactly Walter.

Standard Division:

The IPSC rule since inception of the division is that the Gun is required to go in the box with the mag inserted.

IPSC Canada has had an exemption for multiple years that allowed us to not put the mag in the gun when it went into the box. It allowed for a max length of 170mm for single stack and 140mm for double stack mags.

This exemption is granted by the IPSC Executive.

This exemption is tied to the rule book it was granted under. The old rule book expired Dec 31. There was a new one out Jan 1. I have since applied to the IPSC president and his executive council to renew the exemption.

The IPSC Executive meets at SHOT show next week, so in two weeks, they will either approve a renewal of the exemption and life will go on as before or they will refuse the request and a bunch of us will have to get new mags and / or base pads. It could go either way.

As for now - nothing has changed.

As always, your section coordinators will be the first to know and is your best source of information.

Can we just ask for an excemption for 170 mm mags Shawn? Gets us out of the game of measuring 140 and 170 lengths. If we have a 170 mm excemption for Standard we only have worry about one dimension.

since it can only hold 10 rounds why would it be a problem?? I say make them all 1 meter long... know wouldn't that be a sight

No, our exemptions are based on the request that many of us shoot in the USA and Canada and want to only use one set of equipment. Since the US says nothing about 170s, it's a no go. This is also a renewal request - we had 140 and we want to keep it, our chances of additional exemptions is far weaker than just keeping what we have.
