I am buying my first semi ( 9mm ) and I have an opertunity to buy a Browning High Power with is a Single action. Is it a good gun for IPSC, as I plan to try IPSC down the road. Should I just buy a DA/SA now.

You'll have to shoot Standard Division rather than Production with a SA only pistol. Shooting 9mm (minor power factor) puts you at something of a points disadvantage if you are serious about winning that division.

Personally, I started minor in Standard because I prefer SA only. Eventually went to .40 cal.....

The Browning High Power is a nice gun, but not a good one for IPSC. Like nairbg said, you're scoring minor against everyone who will be scoring major in your division. The other issue is that unless modified, the safety is not easily deactivated on the draw, slowing / encumbering your draw. We did a BB with the military team and they had the really basic safeties, it wound up being a "loan gun" Black Badge. (Most have since bought their own)

If you're in HRM, you can come by a BB practice at AMA and we'd be happy to show you the equipment most have. (PM me) If not, I can hook you up with someone local to you who would be happy to advise you a bit in advance.

Do I have your email address on file to let you know when the next BB is? We're only having one more before the summer - we'll be too busy with the nationals to do anything mid-summer.

Always thought it was kinda sad that the gun that won the first world Championship doesn't have a class it can be competitive in...well i guess you could buy a .40 and shoot it in Standard..In Canada with a 10 rd limit it should be OK
