Hi, I'm thinking of getting into IPSC (only shoot IDPA) and would like to start with a pistol(s) I already own. In my case I want to use my P320 in 9mm or 40SW. I know I will be in Production minor (9mm) and major (40SW). I understand that it generally affects how my scoring will be calculated, minor I need to be more accurate and major can help with my scoring but a bit harder to shoot fast. I think that I am used to how a 40 shoots so I may be able to do a follow up shot accurately...maybe LOL. Anyhow so is it just a matter of preference then? And yes I do reload and will have to keep PF in mind as well.

Thanks

There is no Major scoring in Production, only minor regardless of what you shoot. You could shot the 40 in Standard division as major but the disadvantage versus the other guns in that division would not be worth it. Your best play is to shoot Production and learn to shoot Alpha's.

Oh okay thanks

Agree with chili.
Plus as of 2019, you can add the Apex trigger stuff and still be production legal. Provided your trigger pull is over 3lbs.
If you just love .40 and want to shoot it though, go ahead

Just get into the sport with the pistol you are comfortable with. Take your time, chose your gear, practice being safe then as you advance you can begin looking at more custom or expensive firearms.

That's my plan as mentioned I'll use my P320's. I just like shooting 40 more so was wondering if shooting major was an option.

Dont let the people with their fancy rigs scare you.... You will end up with one yourself if you really get involved!
