Just sarting into handgun shooting and in time would like to get involved in the IPSC shoots.
Question is would a Ruger SR9 be a adequate choice to start out with or what would some suggestions be. Have also looked at the CZ, Glock17 and Berreta. Opinions please.

thanks

It's on the approved list for Production.

I would say adequate but not ideal.

Try and get out to a few matches as a spectator, most competitors will show you their equipment, let you handle it over at the safety table.

What Province are you in?

The SR9 is on the list ist so it's eligible for production class. If you've already got one, go for it. If you need to purchase equipment to get started you'd probably be better off looking at a CZ, Glock or M&P9.

You can start IPSC with almost any centrefire modern firearm. The SR9 should be suitable for starting off. What you want to be careful of is investing a lot of money into a belt, holster, pouches, etc. that you might have to change out if you upgrade your pistol later.

Take a look at the current rule book and talk to some current IPSC shooters and then decide what division you want to shoot in. In the mean time, get an inexpensive belt, holster and set of pouches and get to work on doing your black badge course. You can spend all the money you want to upgrade at a later date.
