It's banned in production class.

Other prohibited modifications include those which facilitate faster reloading (e.g. flared, enlarged and/or add-on magwells, etc.), changing the original color and/or finish of a handgun, and/or adding stripes, stippling or other embellishments.
 
Its a prohibited modification in one division (Class Is your rank as a shooter not a separation of types of firearms) There are four other divisions you can color anyway you want. So it's not banned.
 
The rules make sense at a larger match.
Most of the time you work in the morning and shoot in the afternoon (or vise versa).
So really I'd ask why would a guy want to pack a bunch of weight for no reason when his hands are already full?
A smaller club match where there are no work crews then who cares...
And as for leaving a pistol unattended in a safe area (or am I reading this wrong?) while the owner is off doing RO duties are you guys nuts??

I started shooting IPSC is 1993 and this rule was around then. so Pinto had nothing to do with it. It is the realization that if the price shows up and there is a "Rambo" type on the range you can be guarantee that the front page headline will read IPSC training militia people or some such thing.

Well, he still used that "argument" as justification to keep the Fudd-rule. Even if he didn't bring it into existence, someone with identical mentality did.

I have several issues with your statement...
1) If the "price" (I'm assuming you mean "press") shows up at any range at any given moment, there will be guys wearing OD and various camo patterns.
2) There are other games such as various DCRA disciplines and 3gun associations that don't go full ret.. Fudd on camo and no credible media outlet has ever accused any of those associations of training militias
3) As things stand now, the press can accuse IPSC of training the Russian mob because most of us look like two-bit Russian gangsters :cool:

Other than the imaginary horror scenarios that never materialized for anyone running other shooting disciplines, there's no reason why I should worry whether those cargo pants I grabbed from my laundry basket clash with my lycra shirt.

Re: few comments in here:

- I don't think camo is banned in ipsc...it's discouraged, but not banned
- would there be dq if dropped gun if on lanyard that didn't reach the ground ? have to read the rule, does the rule only say dropped gun, or does it specify the landing on ground part ? if not, then merely dropping it would be dq... :)
- are chest rigs for carry ammo for shotgun shells ? I don't recall that one... ?
- human shaped targets not allowed, yes, that's f'n stupid !!
But I'm o.k. with RO's and score keepers not carrying gun, as it's fair to separate the duties of RO'n or shooting...but do understand if not enough help at the match, may have no choice but to self-RO, etc... maybe change this to highly recommended and required, if dedicated staff...so if there is enough staff to be RO/scorekeep, then yes, they don't need to be geared up...so it separates who's who, etc..
 
Why don't we make the RO's (who volunteer to be RO's in the first place) use a more appropriate holster?

I am of this line of thought....I would rather put my mags and pistol away or off my body when R>O.ing..
However, I think it should be a choice of THe R.O..

No kidding.... My gun weighs 45oz empty.... At 3 gun matches I only wear it when I am about to shoot.... All other times it's in my bag

It's all of 3 seconds to open the action of a pistol, put it on the table in the safe zone. Personally it doesn't matter to me pistol in our out, it really doesn't make any difference. It's not like you're RO'ing before you shoot, you have lots of time to pickup your pistol then examine the COF prior to shooting.

I have an open kydex holster (non race) and if I were to trip and fall on the pistol, yeah.. there's a really small chance it could release if I were to like.. flail miserably while tumbling to the ground. And if that actually happened, I want someone to record that so I can put it on youtube. :)

Some dont like leaving their pistol unattended (on a safety table wherever that is) while they are ROing. most ranges allow spectators. some matches there are lots of spectators in the bays with the squads. You gun is way at the back of the range on a table while you are up range ROing for half an hour. If that is a requirement I would prefer to bag my gun and keep in near me in my range bag.
 
I have been to the Summer Slam Match and it is not a big deal. No one has ever had a problem with their gun missing. Pretty much everyone is trustworthy. I have heard more people loosing their firearms at the Airport... NowI don't know about other Ranges but my experience with Summer Slam has always been amazing. They are a Great Bunch there.
 
If people can't plan around this rule they probably have a hard time walking and chewing gun at the same time. All you need is a couple zippered pouches to swap guns around as needed. Once in the pouch they can be put just about anywhere. While it's a dumb rule for smaller matches, it's not hard to deal with. And the fact is, a rule is a rule is a rule. If you don't follow one, why follow the rest? It's like ignoring 8.7.1, oh, wait....

Rules also don't allow you to just put a gun on safety table and leave it unattended, anyways.. you have to be within certain distance or have someone else do it for you.
And re: theft, of course someone would have to be pretty braising to steal one, but don't feel so comfortable, my friend, as I know of a scenario a gun was stolen from somewhere... Not saying more, but it's not 100% safe anywhere.

I'd like to see how many potties are within reach of your gun when you take it off to go for a pee break?? Most of them also do not have windows to keep an eye on it... Just Saying....
