I need some input from that special few shooting revolvers in IPSC...

The options as I see them are the Ghost holster, CR Speed revolver version and the Safariland 002 Cup Challenge holster.

I have looked at the Ghost and quite frankly it does not seem very secure...and I have heard of and seen a few guns fall out of these.

The only guy I know who has used the Safariland gives it a somewhat lukewarm review.

I have seen the CR version and they look good but..,,

Anyhow....revolver shooters - what is your experience???

John

I am using Ghost and it does feel a bit insecure, though I never dropped a gun out of it.
There is couple more options in the list. BladeTech is making one for revolvers and there is also DAA Race Master for S&W 625. If I'd buying a new one, I'd probably get DAA or CR Speed.

Thanks for that :)

Part of my quandry is the Safariland....it looks like a decent unit and is very reasonably priced. I know one member here who used one recently and while he was not exactly in love with he also tells me he hasn't had a lot of opportunity to tweak it either,so.....do you know anyone who uses the 002 Cup Challenge?

Revolver Holster

I have used a Ghost to hold my 625 for at least two years now and have not had a problem.

Loosening off the screws has made the draw a little better. As for the drop, just wish I could get the butt to level the belt but it isnt that bad! I just have long arms! The butt is just a little high for me but getting the hand on it is very positive. Like I said, could just use some playing with to allow for a faster draw. Definitely not as fast as a ghost type however. Keep in mind the 002 is the only revolver holster ive used!

Thanks for that :)

Speed Sec, i think thats how it's spelled, it works for my 2 Smiths very well, and not to expensive. no other would hold my S&W custom 686 from the preformance centre.:ar15:

I don't own one but I've seen the SpeedSec 5 in action and it looks like an excellent choice. I have a Ghost for my K-frame and it's not as secure as I'd like.

I have a CR for my 625 a 002 and a Bladetech for my 686 and find that all 3 types of holster work good

I've been using the Double Alpha holster for my 625, rock solid. Put the lock on and shake the hell out of it and the gun is still in the holster.

Also the amount of adjustability lets you set it up exactly as you want it.

I like the look of the DAA Racemaster. The one advantage I see over the 002 and the CR Speed is that barrel length is not an issue.

I have several BladeTech DOH's and like them very much but a 6" barrel is too long a pull out of a pouch style holster - my arms are too short :)

So....I think I may go with the DAA.

Thanks for your input guys.

Forget the CR Speed, at best they are like the stick shift in a badly worn gear box. When my one decided to fall apart, that was the last straw. The little stud that the barrel rests on disappeared in the middle of a match, which was a real help. I could go with further thoughts on this holster and about other design issues but it would be like flogging a dead horse.

For the money you can't beet a Speedsec, I have been using one for years now and I have been very happy with it. It will also work with many S & W revolvers, which is a real bonus for you. I use my one with a 625, a 627 and even a 586. What can I say.

You can cut down the front on the bladetech as an option and the cup challenge002 is workable with shorter barrels, I use the same one for a 625 and a model 10.

i use a safariland 002 for ppc while not the same it hold really well i also have a tex shoemaker holster that is very versitile and works really well.

I thought you got out of revolvers John.
Any time you want to try out a ghost you can play with mine.
I love it.
It is so minimalistic it does take some time to trust but mine has worked flawlessly.
My CR for my 2011 is a different matter...
The ghost is cheaper too.

save your money and get a real IPSC gun:D bottom feeders rule!

IPSC revo = :jerkit:
yeah you have a good time, but the rest of us don't want to see you doing it

If you have nothing to contribute to the topic at hand - then don't bother.

Anyhow....I bought a DAA Racemaster from Murray - nice unit. Very strong. Holds the gun dead solid and releases very smoothly. Used it this afternoon with a Kframe Mod 15 and a 586. Worked well.

I just might use it for the steel match in Sept. We'll see.
