I will be taking the "black badge" course on the May long weekend. I plan on using a revolver and shooting matches with a revolver. My question to IPSC revolver shooters is, do you keep speed loaders on both sides of your body and do strong and weak hand reloads or just carry on the weak side. I was told 9 speedloaders was a good number to carry and you sure can't get that many on the same side as your holster.
 
For the BB, don't panic about speedloader holders. You'll want a few, but don't spend before you have a good look around.

For the BB, you're as well served with baggy cargo pants pockets.
 
I have safari land speed loaders and a holder. I have always done a strong hand reload as I have been shooting IDPA and if you have live rounds in the cylinder you have to retain them during a match, and we can only carry 3 speedloaders. Just thinking ahead and want to do some practise reloading before the course.

IIRC, there are only two drills that require a reload during the course.

2-reload-2, and the El Pres. You can do both with your existing equipment and just top up your belt holder from your pockets.

I have 6 speedloader in front of me and 2 speedloaders behind my holster .i reload with my strong hand
 
Most guys I have seen do strong hand reloads. I revolver div in IPSC you can have to speedloaders in front of you holster in the center of your belt.
 
What kind of revolver are you using? If it isn't already, I'd get the cylinder machined for moonclips and use them vice speedloaders.
 
I have a Ruger Gp100 4.2". I have thought about having it machined for moon clips but have been told that moon clips don't work as well for straight cases. I have no idea where to get the moon clips that will work with the Ruger or holders for my belt. I would maybe do it if I could find out more about gear availability. I have watched a few videos and noticed the leaders being worn across the front of the body.

Moonclips will work far better than speedloaders even with. 38 or 357. With the cylinders machined they will plop right in and just about fall out with little effort.
 
The biggest issue I have with the moon clip idea is finding someone that makes 6 shot moon clips to fit a GP100 and a place local in SW Ontario to do the machining. I don't want my cylinder and crane lost in the mail. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be helpfull.

If you get to that point, it's time to think about a new gun.
 
I'll think about that after I get some experience, I'm not prepaired to fork out over $1000 for a 625 at this time. I think the point being I should use my gun with speed loaders, gain experience and save for a revolver that takes moon clips if I choose to go that route.
 
Any 2 piece belt will work, I like the CR.
Personally, I like the Ghost holster.
TK Custom makes moon clip holders, I use 6 of them, nothing is behind my gun.
Blade tech (my bad...) also makes a moon clip holder, there are several others as well.
I know several excellent revolver shooters, some strong hand reload, some don't but they all carry the ammo up front (for the most part)
TK makes moon clips but they aren't cheap, for your gun they're $59.95 for 10, you would need at least 40-50 of them (my opinion...). Getting the cylinder cut is not a big deal on a S&W, no idea on the Ruger- just send the whole gun to a smith if your going to do it (several shops in Canada do it).

Thanks for the ideas. I just bought a proper belt today from Double Tap and will start looking for more speed loaders. If I want to go with moon clips I'll find a 625 in the future.

Just curious who these shops would be that do the cylinder cut? I could see one of those 686 canada specials with a moon clip mod in my future maybe.

I don't have a lathe and all my pistol smiths are either locked up in jail or have lifetime prohibis. Names of competent pistolsmiths would be nice.
