started shooting IPSC last year and fell in love with it. shooting pistols has never been that much fun and i started thinking about rifles and how much shooting one of my ARs in a fast moving scenario would be fun.

so a little research and i find out there are IPSC rifle & shotgun matches.. now i want to find out more.. but where.. how... not much info out there and after a couple of days of searching and reading, i'm left with more questions that answers. so i figured i might as well come here and ask and i'm sure someone with more knowledge than me can help enlighten me.

1- is my black badge certification all i need to shoot rifles & shotgun matches ? or are they similar classes to do to be able to shoot those matches ?

2- i live in QC, and there doesn't seem to be any matches around. is that the case ? maybe some in eastern Ontario ? northen USA? any association or groups to follow ? links ?

3- what are typical shooting distances in a rifle match ? any special equipment needed ? red dots ? scopes ? magnifiers ? short barrel vs longer barrel ? how many mags usually needed ? 5 round only or 10 round LAR mags accepted (if in Canada obviously).

any help would be very much appreciated..

One of the options that is always on the table - start hosting these rifle matches yourself. Then you are your own boss...

Several IPSC Ontario clubs are starting to host more IPSC rifle and shotgun matches.

Sharon had 5-7+ IPSC rifle matches last season and will likely do the same this year. Think Frankford and one or two other clubs may have also hosted a couple rifle matches. Longest distance i’ve see at these matches was 100 metres on clays. You can use a red dot or irons, but most use a variable 1x6 or thereabouts scope. Most use 3-4 Lar mags on a 16” or 18” rifle. But you can shoot whatever is IPSC legal.

Re. IPSC Shotgun.
You’ll likely see several Ipsc Shotgun matches in Ontario this season as Crumlin and Oxford are hosting the first ever Canadian IPSC Shotgun National Championship September 17-21. Match will be 18 stages over two days with one day at each club.

Currently Barrie has a shotgun match on the calendar for May 4 and Haliburton has a SG match scheduled on September 7, and i’m sure you’ll see several additional shotgun warm-up matches leading up to the Nationals. The MD for the upcoming SG Nationals finished I think 22nd in the Worlds Shotgun Championship in France last summer, so you know he’ll be putting together some really fun challenging Shotgun stages. If you’re into IPSC Shotgun, this is one match you don’t want to miss!

Edit to add:
yes, your BB certification allows you to shoot IPSC Handgun, Rifle and Shotgun matches. Strongly suggest you read up on the IPSC rifle and shotgun rules though before shooting either as there are some differences to Handgun.

It's the only official qualification that you'll need.

There's no additional endorsement for IPSC rifle or shotgun matches.

We have 3guns and CQB matches running in QC City thru the summer months if its something you might be interested in. 3guns are ran like an IPSC match. Distance go from 3m to 300m. CQB is 10 to 35 but this summer, we'll stretch it out a bit ;)

Another option would be to take carbine training. I was at the same boat as you and decided to attend general carbine course first. Rifle is different machine and I much more difficult to operate compare to handgun, you need to know proper technique.
However, it's just my opinion.
