Hi there all,

Right now I am using a Beretta 92fs for production, I have a 2.5" duty belt as the belt for my rig, my question to you, what mag holders are out there that will be compatable with this belt? What are some makes to stay away from...

any advice is great advice,

Thanks alot all.....

Use what the best use...

Belt: CR Speed
Mag Pouches: CR Speed or Guba
Holster: CR Speed or Ghost Holster

FWIW, Slavex uses a CR Belt, Guba pouches, and the Ghost.

For a starter, a Blade-tech DOH will be as good for quite less.
CR Speed or JR belt, (I made one myself).

Dan;

We started out with the large duty belts and they are not
very parts freindly. Talk to George T at the next RA match and
get yourself a 1.5" belt, from there you can go to something
like CR or Safariland for Mag pouches. As a matter of fact
Curt has a brand new belt you could probably have for dirt
cheap. It also has a speed holster and 2 mag pouches with
it. The holster is 1911 style so it is no good but I will check
on the mag pouches. PM us if you are interested !

a Bladetech Dropped and Offset rig is also popular, less money than a Speed rig, and is just as quick. (well, maybe a .15 slower) It is a no brainer, no locks to engage or disengage, and is adjustable for tension.

I think the best move is to spend a few extra bucks replace the 2.5" duty belt and get a proper competition belt so you will not have to compromise. Then get C.R. Speed everything and you will have a completely integrated rig. If you are going to shoot in the U.S. get C.R. Speed for everything but the holster. Then you'll need one of those dropped and offset Blade something or other thingy's......or maybe you've already got something along those lines.

You will never go wrong with proper equipment, and C.R. makes some of the best. Their holster ships with a Beretta insert for the trigger guard lock.

Dan,

Relliot makes a really good point. I know that you want to use a duty rig due to your impending employment in law enforcement BUT..IPSC is a game and should be fun so use FUN gear..like a competition belt, holster and mag pouches..during your personal pracitce sessions, take your duty rig and practice with it once in a while.

Also set up dry fire a couple of nights a week with only your duty rig when you practice draws and mag changes from it from various positions (seated, standing, kneeling, etc).

I have a CR holster for my Beretta that I love and I also have a Bladetech. The Bladetech was quite a bit cheaper and is very quick.

For mag pouches I run Safariland competition pouches (I forget the number) but CR or Guga's are very good... if I were looking to upgrade, I'd probably go CR but that's just me! :)

CR's are more durable.

than Guga mag pouches? I disagree on that one. I'll never touch CR mag pouches again since I got my Guga. far more adjustment and better range of motion. Could they be better though? Yup, but I still think they are a better choice than CR, but of course they cost more too.

I'll say.... I seem to remember a certain dentally enhanced individual doing a mag change at the BC Provincials where his Guga Ribas mag pouch came apart (he had to discard the mag because the pouch and mag were still one in his hand)........

I like the Guga's adjustability and agree with you there, but I had a set of Guga's at one point, and managed to break two of them off at the metal swivel; once walking past a door at the dark house (U.S. Nationals) hooking it, and once when going prone. Both times they snapped like twigs. They may have updated the design since then, but I would always favor a little less adjustability over durability. Having said that, I'm still using my old Safariland pouches for Standard, which also have limited built in adjustability, but can easily be fitted exactly the way I want them. Planning to refit with C.R. pouches for the rest of my S.R. rig next season. I will have to modify them to my "ample" waistline, but I don't mind that if I get something I know I can hit prone on without destroying them.

But, maybe you can convince me that the Guga's are indeed now strong enough to survive the kind of abuse I tend to inflict on my stuff....?

Both I and the students I equip run with CR Speed belts and mag pouches, I always get then from Jason at the IPSC store (www.ipsc.org ) - prices are in USD but they are in ONtario, just outside of Toronto.

I've never tried guba/guga pouches, I have so many CR SPeed and I'm happy with them, I'm not going to change - too many other things to work on to improve the score(s), new mag pouches might mean faster reloads, but those are not my bottlenecks now ;)

the only stage I had a problem on, and it was actually not a problem, but a benefit, was the one with the bed we had to lay on. my back two pouches slid off when I laid down. But since we had to start with no mags in the pouches, it was actually an easier start position with no mags pouches on my back. I remeber a load and make ready where I had to remove a mag pouch from a mag (you do have to keep them tightened), and one stage where I lost a mag from a pouch while running. But then again I had that happen with my old CR rig too.

When I was using them I found that mounting the carrier upside down prevented that from occurring. The pouches never seemed to slide off the carriers when mounted that way.

i am not sure where you can buy Safariland in Canada?

Brownells (which I know is in the US) will happily ship safariland to you. They'll give you dealer pricing too.

If it's not in the catalogue contct them and they'll special order it for you.
