It's hard to tell what modifications have been made until I read the thing, but the one thing I did look for was a ruling on Fibre Optics in Production Division.

There seems to be no change to the wording from previous editions, ergo Fibre Optics are still not permitted. A shame, as I had been under the impression that they were going to be permitted, which would have given Production Division an even bigger boost. Hopefully, IPSC will amend its definition of "same type and kind" to include Fibre Optics in the "post/notch" type of sight.

Ick, here it is, 2 days after the new edition has been released, and I'm already hoping for published rules interpretations. :rolleyes:


Oh...and there are no tolerances for steel targets included in this new edition either...

I was under the impression that they are legal if offered by the OEM?

Hi Slavex................Fiber Optic are allowed in Production IF OFFERED BY THE OEM (no aftermarket manufacturers)..............so far the only gun I know Vince has OK'd because documentation has been proved is the CZ SP01...there was a thread on it on the official IPSC website..to be specific its under Handguns..CZ75 SP01 and Optional OFM parts...page 3 it was proved to Vince and accepted that the brochure produced for CZUB was valid

Sorry, my bad. I was referring to levelling the playing field for everybody. I'd like to see Fibre Optics legal for EVERY gun in Production, regardless of whether offered by the OFM or not.
 
Remember that these rules were presented for GA approval in July of 2005.

No one had thought about steel target tolerances at that point.

Vince told me that he plans for it to be in the next update/interpretation/etc. Those things usually come out after IWA.
 
New Rule Book

It would be nice if IPSC would post a revision list to the rules so we know what changes have been made with out reading it from cover to cover. Think of it as a safety issue here, I almost hit my head on the desk when I started to nod off!

Seriously, my company updates, our SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) HR Polices etc and they all have in the back of the document what was changed and why. (Even when they make corrections for spelling and Grammar) IPSC could post it as a separate document too keep the rule book from growing too big but it would be very nice to have it for a quick review. ;)
 
IPSC did post a list of changes quite a while ago. It wasn't an official posting, but a preview made available by Vince Pinto on the IPSC Global Village discussion forum.

I haven't had an opportunity to go through the entire rulebook to see if there were any differences between the preview and the published, official copy yet.

I thought that Springfields Custom shop didn't qualify as OFM as you need to special order and gunsmithing needs to be done (thereby making if non-OFM)???

IMO, any work done on a pistol before it leaves the factory is OEM when it is delivered to the customer. Surely the rules of Production and the 'spirit of the game' are quite clear on that....it's AFTERMARKET/AFTER FACTORY mods that are not allowed, unless these mods are available from the factory for that model. Springfield Armory's Custom Shop is in the factory. How can factory custom work on a gun that I order from the factory be "illegal" under IPSC Production rules, but somebody else can slap an extended mag release & slide stop, a 3.5lb disconnect and Heinie sights on a G17, that does not come from the factory with these parts?.
This sounds awfully arbitrary to me. :rolleyes:
Edited to add: I don't have a horse in this race, but the rules do seem to favour particular brands of guns over others.

I would agree with this statement, but then I've always found the whole OFM/Aftermarket discussion to be apparently arbitrary as to what is and isn't allowed.

I think you'd have to go upstairs on this one, because IPSC is going to be the final authority on this decision; it's not clear in the rule book one way or the other how the XD Custom shop should be treated.

Vince has been pretty clear over on GV that the Springfield Custom Shop is not considered OFM.
