I don't specifically have a dog in this fight (I don't do IPSC), but if IPSC goes everything else will be harder, so:

"matured"? This drips with disdain for martial arts. Further, I don't know what karate school Nick went to, but my hap-ki-do / tae-kwon-do school only stopped using bamboo rods because it hurt enrollment. Apparently Canadians are less willing to be whacked with a semi-flexible stick than Koreans

...There is a difference between the appearance of an AK lookalike shotgun and a lookalike assault rifle. Non-shooters expect rifles to look like that but are more shocked by viewing a shotgun in that configuration. The perception ( to the general public) of what a shotgun should look like is very different to some Open Division guns...
