IPSC Standard Class kit discussion

I now realize, I just want to play the game, and I don't have enough money to blow on 'competitive' equipment that I would actually enjoy shooting.

So, what do I do now? I suppose that leaves me to buy equipment that I like, and play purely for my own enjoyment.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I know 2 guys (father and son) who shoot production and do it for their own fun, rather than trying to light up the scoreboard. Dad shoots a S&W M&P and son shoots a XD both in 9 mm. They don't have any fancy gear at all, just basic holsters, mag pouches and safety gear. They go out and shoot because they enjoy the game, not because they want to win. If you go into it with that mindset, then I don't think you will have any issues at all!

There will always be people in any sport/hobby that have to have the latest and greatest and will go on at length about it. This happens in snowmobiling, dirtbikes, cars, RV's etc., etc. I try my best to see through the BS and just get involved. If you have to stand on the sidelines and wait until your situation permits you to get the best gear for whatever you choose to participate in then you will find that you will A) not get involved at all and/or B) minimize the level of enjoyment you will get out of it. By the time you get the gear you originally wanted something new will be out making the stuff you got outdated again. You can't win the equipment race (at least most of us can't) and I have long since bothered to try. I just get gear, new or used (mostly used lol) that will do the job and go at it. And upgrade as time/interest/funding/better half permits. Be it sledding, motorcycles, mountain bikes... doesn't matter. I know too many guys that keep saying "maybe next year" and they aren't getting any younger.

Personal Setup:

Tanfoglio Limited Custom II GK (Like Steve's Gun) .40 Cal
DAA Racemaster Holster
DAA Magpouches X5
DAA Magnet X1
DAA Belt X1
CED 7000 Timer

That is for standard.

For Open I use:
Tanfoglio Limited Custom II GK Compensated 357SIG
DAA Racemaster Holster
DAA Magpouches X5
DAA Magnet X1
DAA Belt X1

Reloading Setup:
Dillon 550B
40 cal dies
357SIG
Lee Bulge Buster (to tame nasty GLOCKED brass)
Winchester or Starline Brass
BDX Bullets
CCI 400 SR Primers
WSF 5.7gr (.40 major)
H110 11gr (357SIG Open)

Fun Fun Fun.

And Like Steve, go with the gun that fist your hands. If you cannot grip the gun completely, you CANNOT control the recoil, and therefore your scores will suck @ss.

Tanfoglio's are great guns, Even some schmuck named Eric Graufel uses one, whoever he is, and if you have smaller hands, the Tanfoglio will actually fit you, unlike the STI/SVI guns (which I love but cannot hold on to)
