so I just got back from shooting in Norway and Czech. In Norway I shot on some amazing targets that they use exclusively now. It's a solid paperboard vs our carboard (they used to use similar) and has a waxy coating to it. Cost for them is the same as the old style cardboard. These are thinner and much stronger than the old style ones. The big bonus? 3 weeks in the rain and the target is still straight and strong, that's both on a shot target and a virgin one. 3 weeks, in the rain, snow, and sun, and it's still a good target. Their tape also goes on IN THE RAIN and sticks no problem.
I brought back samples of the full size and mini targets and I'm going to look at finding the cardboard here. According to the Norwegians the same die can be used on this stuff as the old. Anyone have any experience with similar materials here?

If this type of material is available in Canada for a roughly equivalent cost then I would guess that it would easily become the new standard for targets, and IDPA may also want to have a look. being know for the odd rainstorm in SW Ontario, I would think that EESA would almost certainly switch to this style.

Any thoughts on what VP has to say about them?

So long as they meet the measurements set out in the rules they would be legal targets.

sounds awesome. So even in the rain they don't curve? Sounds like a no brainer if the price is good.

I believe each region is free to produce their own targets for the sport. In BC we have a stupid rule that contravenes the mighty Red rule book, and we have to use IPSC BC targets ať sanctioned matches. But their is no reason they couldn't produce these targets themselves, same goes for other provinces.
And yes they are thinner, but about the same weight. Apparently it's a product used for making fish boxes.

Slavex, that stupid rule helps to pay for our sport. It subsidizes the training of our officials, pays for the teams, etc.

Water resistant targets and tape would be a no-brainer for BC, especially if the cost is about the same. It would even save a little $ if we don't have to replace a soggy, 'tape won't stick to' target because of rain. Not to mention being a time saver trying to protect targets from the weather during setup.

I'll bring the samples to the next match. The tape I didn't get a sample of but the tape I should be able to get info on from Norway.
