IPSC What do I need????

You guys are confusing the belt with the holster

Or would that be the holster with the belt

In any event...this question came up before...I verified with NROI and they were allowed. We'll re-check and post the result.

Paddle holsters do not attach to a belt Quigley..............

It was discussed recently on GV

General concensus...if they are secure thay are allowed.

Keep in mind that if a particular paddle holster (or any holster for that matter) is deemed unsafe by the RM...may I present to you ...rule 5.2.6

5.2.6 - IPSC Handgun matches will not require the use of a particular type or brand of holster. However, the Range Master may deem that a competitor’s holster is unsafe and order that it be improved to his satisfaction, failing
which it must be withdrawn from the match.

Forget about PPC and viola! 50% savings!!

Seriously, check out the local IPSC club and troll for used gear, there's quite a lot out there.

Welcome to to the league!

I just got into this but have yet to attend a BB course. Luckily I found a club match that only required that I not shoot myself or anyone else so I was allowed to participate.... :D As it turned out I had a blast and only had two moments that would be considered as close to a handling infraction. Such are the advantages of a club level IPSC style match as opposed to an official qualifier.

I totally agree with the idea of getting a proper belt and belt mounted holster. In addition based on my own findings I would suggest 5 magazines in total and 4 belt holders. The first can rest in a pocket until it goes in the gun at the "load and make ready" point. Granted I don't think I actually needed that fourth spare but it's not a bad thing to have in case you try to load and fire and find that one of the others got bent during a reload drop.

IPSC and similar events is why I got my RPAL in the first place. If it was just standing in one spot and putting holes in paper I'd have just gone out to the Rent-A-Gun range twice a year and been happy. But when you can run around to engage multiple targets and knock stuff over or make it go SPLANG! it really adds something to the sport.

FYI; Quigley Nailed it! VP confirms. Paddles OK, RM's discretion to the safe capabilities of said holster remains in place. (as it does all holsters)

I am very interested in IPSC shooting. What do I need to do to get my BB? I know I need to get into a course. But what do I need in the way of ammo/equipment? It looks like its a blast (Pun intended). It would be nice to actually do something with my pistols other than hunt paper.

Thanks,

start with a bank loan....then move up to a second mortgage...it adds up quick!
:)

Why would you get a paddle holster when you can get an IDPA certified holster and duty belt all for under $80 that no RM would ever question?
Because (as the thread title says) - We're discussing IPSC - IDPA certification is irrlevant and perhaps someone already had one and wants to save a few $$.

It's not irrelevant if you consider that your Black Badge will also allow you to shoot IDPA & ODPL. The original post clearly states he's on a limited budget, so buying an IDPA approved holster will allow him to shoot in either competition without having to buy or learn 2 holsters.

Also why would you leave it up to the RM's discretion? You drive all the way to Cornwall on July 12th to meet the RM who's having a bad morning and you've just wasted 8 hours in your car! (Not to mention the fact you're now in Cornwall) A paddle holster isn't any cheaper than a good Kydex holster, so if it's not what you wear at work why would you want one anyway?

In IPSC...the RM has final say in all matters related to safety. If the holster is not safe...you can't use it...period.

If you're unsure...send an email to NROI...or IPSC Ontario (or what ever section you may belong to) and get verifiction. we're asy to get ahold of.

We won't allow a potential safety issue just because someone was unprepared for their road trip.

I would expect that xDPA treats safety issues the same way.
