Hello

I'm wondering if I can make my IPSC black badge while using my Colt Official Police 6'' revolver in .38 Special? Is this very unusual? I like revolvers much more than pistols, sorry thats me

I have still no holster and speedloader (how many?). Any recommendations?

Thank you very much

Martin

Hell yes :D I shoot Revolver with a 625 with full moon clips, and there are at least 4 or 5 regular shooters in Revolver division in my area. If you figure that the maximum required number of rounds in a long course is 32 rounds, you'll need at least 6 speedloaders, and 2 extras probably wouldn't hurt if you fumbled a reload/dropped one while running. As long as you get a holster that covers the trigger-guard, and doesn't carry the revolver so low that the butt is any lower than the top of your belt, it'll work for IPSC. After you shoot for a while, you'll probably see what works and what doesn't and what you'll want to "upgrade".

It's not a problem I used my revolver for BB course. I think they ask for 3 speedloaders for the course, but you should have more. I wear nine on my belt during competition and use a tenth to load my revolver for the start. Safariland comp 3 speedloaders work best for me. Where I shoot I am usually the only revolver shooter and so they group me in standard. It really sucks competiting with tuned auto loaders all the time. I would look into your area and find out how many other revolver shooters there are to compete with. If its your only pistol (like me) just remember you'll usually come in first place in revolver division  .

I have seen soem revolver shooters, and they look to be having a lot of fun. The reloading for revolver seems to be very important.

I think the Python gear is identical (I-Frame!?)

Yes.

have seen soem revolver shooters, and they look to be having a lot of fun.

We are.

As for loads, you have to make sure thaey make 125000 power factor. (+P)

Federal 158gr LRN will not make PF.

My load is 158gr LSWC, 4.3gr/Bullseye, Federal SP primer. 4.0gr/Bullseye only made 124000 PF on a hot day.

Never shot a .38 special in competition, but I can't see why you can't. Above are a couple of pictures of a 625-2 I used for many years. Worked well for USPSA / IPSC and steel. I like the extra weight of the .45 bullet along with the larger diameter. Have upset a lot of autos along the way and I didn't make to many friends. Good trigger and a lot of practice with good equipment will put a smile on your face after a match. Remember your doing this to have fun and don't give up too soon. Stick with it, because it takes time.

Good shooting and have fun!

Thanks for your help and encouragement!

Peter, can I achieve a similar load with HP38 powder?
Where can I get cheap +P ammo?

Thanks

Martin

Sh*** weather here in Halifax today. Raiiiiiining...
The ducks are open now :D :D :D

SHL540USA:

The optics will put you in open not revolver. You would be classed with all the raceguns.

Sunray:

I think you would find that it's and L-frame holster. The Police Positive would be K-frame.

The main thing here is to get out and do it. FWIW use lighter loads for the BB course, and then practice and shoot the matches with the higher power loads.

RePete.

Colt Police Positive =D-frame like Colt Diamandback
Colt Official Police =I-frame like Colt Python

S&W Military and Police, Hand Ejectors and Masterpiece are K-FRame.

Right?

Martin

RePete:

You are correct. I did compete in Open class. I was just trying to encourage Martin to continue with his interest in revolvers.
