This summer i picked up one of these from a gentleman i work with. It's all matching as far as i can see. I wanted a good shooter and it it all that.
The guy i bought it from said the guy he purchased it from said it came from Australia. I explained to the best of my knowledge where it was made ,stored and then released as surplus in the mummy wrap.
Could this rifle have made a trip via large importers first to Australia and finally to Canada. Does anyone know the story or have one of these that supposedly came that route?

Mine stamped; No4 Mk2(F)
1/54 PF3164xx

I got mine from Century Arms before they left Kanada. Wrappings and all. They were released by Ireland unto the International surplus market. Where they all ended up who knows, but it makes sense that some may have made it to fellow Commonwealth countries.

Importing from Australia (when they were available here) doesn't make sense to me unless it was well after Century had closed up shop here.

Note many "Irish contract" rifles never got to Ireland, but rather went from the factory straight into storage. So the rifle could have come from England when the L!A1's went into storage, bumping out the No4's

There is a specific Ser # range for these and I have it but will have to hunt for it. As John said most never went to Ireland and were sold of elsewhere. I bought one in 86 without a bolt for $10.00. A quick trip to Del Selin's and I had a head spaced non-matching Irish contract for $50.00.

It might take me a day to find the Irish ser #'s unless John or another Enfield guru wants to step in.
