Look closer the butt on mine has been bubba'ed, note the rounded pistol grip. You cant tell but if the butt been sanded out like that you can bet that the rest of the wood was hacked away, which it was. Its wearing a new stock that I got still in the wraper. Since that picture was taken I have found a proper but stock that was not sanded and have installed it.
It is a sweet rifle. It started out as a 41 or 42 No4Mk1* Savage that got the full FTR in the early 50's new 5 groove barrel and Mk2 trigger. All matching and remarked as a No4Mk1/3 Faz FTR.
Have to look carefull at what appears to be correct.
Shoots about 6" low and right but I'll be adjusting that next, just have to check what front site blade its got and fit the correct height (shorter).
I had her out with my 42 Longbranch yesterday, the Longbranch has not been FTR'ed and still has teh 2 position flip site. Its shooting about 4" high at 100 so it should be just right at 300
The rear appature site your talking about, it that a Parker Hale Sight PH5C
EDIT
I just noticed your in Edmonton, I would love to have a look at that rifle. I even have a set of head space gauges that I can tempt you with, If you wnat to check your spacing.
