Iron Sight Upgrade for My 2009 Norinco, Pic Heavy!

I didnt see it mentioned but would you mind taking a micrometer and seeing just how much off center the norinco peep hole is to the one on the treeline m14 and if someone could possibly compare the treeline unit to a usgi unit ?

i dont know if its just mine but my peep hole seems to be not very centered.

Actually that is a comin thing with Norinco's to have off centered rear peep sights, rear sight base center lines and also the front sight post way off to 1 side. Uncle Mao hates Q.C. atleast thatz what I think.

Another great thread on a much discussed topic. I get a great many rear sight questions, lots of where do I get new sights, how do remove and install. This thread helps the community and makes life at the keyboard easier for guys like Hungry and myself.

Are these sights the new reproduction garand sights that are now on the US market? Or are they surplussed garand?

I bought the same sights from treelinem14.com and spoke with the owner. The knobs are Italian parts from their garands and the rest are USGI.

That means that the windage units are still Metric.

I bought a set from treeline and once installed I find it very hard to move the windage knob as the base inside seems to be press fit against the cover. This causes some friction resulting in a very tough side to side movement. Anyone else have this symptom? I do love how tight they fit thou. With no play at all in the aperture.

Some fitting may be required.
Try swapping the sight cover for the chinese version.
The sight cover has a small indent running across, just below the aperture. This puts tension downward on the sight base and aperture. There are specific techniques to modify/fit rear sight parts to any given receiver. Hard to explain here however.
I have found that stoning, not filing or dremelling, a few thou or so from the front leading edge of the sight cover can ease instal and function on the really tight rear sight installs.

Yes, I habe experienced the same thing. However, if yoh play with the screws a bit and find that sweet spot you'll solve the problem. I haven't had the chance to test them out yet. Will have to wait till after the clinic. 8 )
