Iron Sights for 1973 Winchester 9422

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 1973 Winchester 9422 for $650 and it does not have any sights. I would like to put iron sights on it, but I don't know alot about guns and I'm not sure which sights would be compatible with this model rifle. Please post any recommendations for my situation. Also, I live in Edmonton and will likely be looking for someone to install the sights. Any recommendations from fellow Edmontonians? :D

UPDATE 2:

I have some approximate measurement info:

I have the barrell width at approximately .600 in the front, and approximately .800 in the back.

Front:Barrel radius = .300
Ramp height = .225
Front sight will be .260 (.300)+(.225)+(.260) = .785

Rear:
Barrell Radius at rear sight = .400
Rear sight will be range: .320-.420 (Lets use the middle of the range = .370)
(.400)+(.370) = .770

This should work? :D

Appears to me that Numrich has the parts and schematics - Winchester 94 series - then 94-22 series - is at gunpartscorp.com in USA - likely similar found at Western Gun Parts in Edmonton? Looks like a front sight ramp with screw, hood and sight insert , then a dovetail rear with elevator, two tiny screws and rear sight plate. I am not real certain about variations over the years - having your serial number is likely helpful.

That WGRS-54 is exactly the sight that I mounted on 9422 for our son - he is in his mid forties - his Father-In-Law told me that the young fellow took three running gophers at about 45 yard with three shots - our son thinks the 9422 with aperture rear sight is "perfect" - he much prefers that one over a scope on that rifle.

Both son and I trying to practice to "shoot like a US Marine" - my former boss was a shooting instructor at a recruit camp - both eyes open - left eye sees target - train your brain to see front sight as clear and sharp as you can, with right eye - only happens if your right eye is dead center within that aperture, so do not worry about rear sight - look through it - gets all fuzzy in your vision - let physics do it's magic - your job is to focus your right (shooting) eye on that front sight. Takes practice, we have found. But also translates nicely to using a scope on targets that are moving - your brain CAN handle two different images from left and right eye - do NOT fight that with "thinking" about it - let it learn how to.

As I recall, was not an exact "drop in" fit - I think I had to do a bit of filing on the underside of the WGRS-54 sight - but it is on, and snugged up very nicely. I think we used "Tru-glo" fibre optic front sight bead - maybe blaze orange, maybe red, maybe green?? Do not remember. It could have been a "Fire Sight" kit - rear aperture and front fibre optic ... For sure, I have a Fire Sight set on my own Ruger 10-22. You will also want to read up how to establish required height of your front sight - is many heights that are sold.

As implied - I am not expert - but I think for aperture rear sight that you want a front sight hood - bead in dead centre of it - effect is like a partial front sight globe, like target shooters use. Gives you a greater part of a circle to help focus on that front sight bead.

Thanks for the info, the WGRS-54 definitely has my interest.
I will likely go with the MARBLE ARMS REAR SIGHT FOLDING LEAF REPLACEMENT and matching front sight. The reason is that I have these sights on my Henry longranger and it makes sense to keep them the same. I have confirmed that they are compatible, but now my problem is that I need to figure out the size of rear sight required. I need to do measurements, etc.

Question: Is there a way to avoid doing these measurements by referring to the owners manual? Isn't this information provided?

I may tang mount a skinner sight at a later time to compare. I'm hoping I can fold down my rear sight so that I can try the skinner without breaking my configuration.
 
Is what I found - having two rear sights and same front sight - pretty much have to have a sight on barrel that folds down, or it "gets in the way" to see through rear aperture sight - both aligned with front sight - I am presuming at the same range. Might be different with barrel sight set for 25 yards and aperture sight set for 100 yards - using same front sight - barrel length would enter into it - I do not know how much a fixed barrel rear sight would interfere??
