I was just wondering if Iron Sights can be placed on a Savage F/TR....
If so, what type, manufacturer, and where do you get them?

Also, with a weight of almost 13lbs can you compete in Palma with it?

I make a front sight to fit the 1 inch Savage barrel without having to turn the end if the barrel down. All you will need is a 22mm adjustable iris.
As far as the rear sights go I don't know the the F/TR has holes in the side of the receiver for mounting a central style base. If not you can get one that fits into a dovetail you mount in place of the scope bases or on a Picitiny rail.
You can contact Paul Reiben at Range sports for rear sights. At one time he carried CH rear sights that are better that Central's IMHO. He also carries RPA sights that are very good.
You can also check out Centra sights, not to be confused with Central, at Sinclair Int'l or Warner sights.
Rifle weight for DCRA at present it is 6.5Kg or 14.3 lbs. Just remember that weight include sights, handstop, small bipod/rifle rest and the bolt. The max weight will be changing soon (next year I believe) when Cadada goes to the ICFRA rules.

I thought I saw savage selling their target rifle with a palma ready setup. They don't come with sights but are pre drilled and tapped, fit your own sights and go. Then again google knows more than I do.

I would not put "real" iron sights, by a good receiver peep sight (using a good quality diopter) and front tunnel on it.
Look in there http://www.champchoice.com they have an extensive inventory and you should find something to please you....
Then, you ask your favourite dealer to import it for you.

Regarding the rules;

"Palma: The NRA defines the Palma rifle as one that is chambered for .308 Winchester (7.62 mm NATO), and has metallic sights. The NRA does not define any explicit weight for the rifle and sights or the trigger. However, the Palma rifle is regulated by an international standard (set by the Palma Council). This organization requires that the rifle weight no more than 6.5 Kg (about 14.3 lbs.), and the trigger must lift a weight of at least 1.5 Kg (about 3.2 lbs). Moreover, this group limits the available bullets to one: the 155 gr Sierra Match King Palma bullet. The U.S. NRA does not make any restriction."

Baribal,
Old NRA rules, old artical. Any bullet under 156gr may be used for DCRA and Palma Competition, been that way for about 15 years. Trigger weight and max rifle weight is changing to reflect new ICFRA rules, likely by next season.
The iron sights we are talking about are in fact Vernier/aperture type target sights.

Johnny Canuck, There are many different rear sights and many different mounting options. Some are side mounted some are top mounted and several different dovetail styles.

Maynard,

This comes from Palma.org (see rules) site (Rev. 2003)... Maybe someone should talk to them to update their rules...

Tell me, the front sight bases you make, are they of the split ring type?

The sight I make is a complete barrel band and tunnel unit, all you need is an adjustable iris. PM me your email address and I will sent you a picture.

I agree the US Palma rules may be a little behind on their website. The 155 SMK rule was thrown out when Hornady come out with the A Max, then all the other bullet companies jumped on the 155 bandwagon.
