OK guys and gals I will be dogging for deer with my model 94 30-30 this year but im not sure if I should go with irons or a peep any and all advise would be appreciated

tks mike

I've had better luck with iron sights, it's probably one of those shooters preference sort of thing that you may want to try out first before you are "forced to get used to it"

Peep sight for sure.
I am our gangs "puncher" and a M94 with a Williams is my sight system.
Once you get used to it you will wonder how you got by so long without it.

I have a Williams peep sight on my '92 clone... and now I can actually nail the target most of the time :)

I would say take another step in the right direction and as well as getting a Williams Foolproof receiver peep sight, also purchase the same company's other great product.
Replace the front factory bead, with the Williams "Firesite," front sight. This "see-through" red acrylic bead is a full third smaller, than the original factory bead. Allows for even more better placement of your shot at any distance. It gathers ambient light and funnels it through the material in a subtle, but useful way. I think there is even a newer package deal, that offers both products in one plastic blister pack.

PS: Know the measured heighth of the original front factory bead, prior to your purchase!

Aperature sight, for sure.
It gets a bit confusing when the question was, "Iron sights or peeps?"
For the record, peep sights are iron sights!
The question should be, "Peep (aperature) sights or open sights?"
The rules of shooting matches often state, "Iron sights only." And of curse, that means no glass, but peep sights permitted.
By the way, in any shooting match I ever heard of, I never heard of open sights beating out the peep sights.

well it looks like I will be putting on the peep sight tomorrow evening thanks for all your suggestions folks really appreciated!!!

pal, i had standard opens on my 94, an couldnt hit #### with it, put on a williams peep an holllyyy... can i now use that thing out to 100 no worries..

I had a peep sight on a Winchester .22 and couldn't hit a damn thing with it. The only aperture sight I've ever tried and liked was on a Mossberg 590-A1 12ga.

And that will likely only make sense to me.

You might want to stick a peep on a 22 for cheap practice if you have never used a peep before. They take a little practice but worth the effort. Williams have one that fits on groove receivers of 22s. I put one on my 9422 so I have the same sight picture as my 94 356 win.

You may find that you have to install a higher front sight. This would be a good opportunity to ditch the crummy bead sight and put a proper rectangular post front sight on the old girl. The XS front sight is a good one, and the vertical line on the center makes front sight focus a bit easier for some.

I put a lyman tang sight on my 94 and it makes it a 150 yd gun instead of
100 yds.
I filed the sides of the brass "bb" front sight to make it a flat blade and I'm looking forward to actually using the gun to hunt, rather than just owning a classic(with awful buckhorn sights!)

Both are good, however when i switched to peeps the elevation screw broke on me so im back to irons. I can shoot fine to 100 with the irons but peeps do make it a little easier.

Alot of people stuggle trying to centre the frint bead in the peep. I to did the same. and hated peeps until I was shooting an FN in the army where I was taught the proper way to use a peep.

Ignore the peep, and your eye will centre the front bead all on its own. CRAZY STUFF......ALMOST MAGIC.
Just cosentrate puting your bead on the target and you will be A-OK.

Skinner sights makes a good front post sight:

A post front sight is a far better choice than a bead to use in conjunction with any sort of peep sight.

The XS sight is probably a good choice for big game at short ranges, but I tried one on my Winchester pump .22 with a Marble's tang sight and I found it too coarse for plinking at empty shotshells at 25 yards. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
