What are you guys using for Iron sights?

I have not used iron sights on my rifles much, as I have a few different red dot sights (MRO, RMR, Aimpoint, Eotech) and have not really put any time in with irons.

Currently I only have Troy sights with the M4 style front, good sight but wrong color as I bought them in FDE originally for a FDE/tan themed rifle, but now want black for black rifles. Im thinking of selling the Troy FDE sights and buying something else, possibly another set of Troy but in black and with the HK style front...Unless I find something else to try

So what do you guys suggest for a good quality metal sight set?

First off, do you even intend to use them? No sense in spending the money if they're just going to sit on the rifle unused.

That being said, regardless of your wants and needs, there's a rather short list of irons I'd use.

For folding, Troy's, KAC, and Magpul pro's.
For fixed, Daniel Defence or the newer Scalarworks irons but I don't have any personal time with them.

Yes the plan is to use them because so far I have not and only use red dot sights on my rifles. I’d like to set one up without a red dot and practice with iron sights only. I’d like flip ups over fixed

I agree with his recommendations for folding sights. I have tried them all, they are all good. My preference is for the troys round rear, HK front with a nice thin KNS front post.

Diamondhead are my favourite.

You just gave me an idea and reminded me I have those sights and dont use them, my Kriss vector came with diamondhead sights. Im going to pop them off and give them a try on an AR

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I was kinda thinking there would be something out there that I haven't seen but looks like Troy or KAC are the hot ticket.
Never really liked magpul because I thought they were all plastic but now I see the Pro's are metal

Im going to try the diamond head's, but Id also really like to try the Troy HK style front. So hopefully I can sell these FDE Troys and use the money towards another set in black with HK front

If you shoot to any distance beyond 300m with folding iron sights you can narrow your search to KAC 600m adjustable.

Not yet, the longest barrel I have is 10.5", the majority of my AR's are 7.5" because currently I only shoot at indoor range currently

I do want a set of KAC with a taupe front sight eventually, but that is more the look as its for a MK18 replica that I have, so I have been holding out due the the high cost for now, and I've moved onto other builds for now

Magpul, dd, kac.. f¥€k Troy.

YUP x 378942389478932....F Troy

I have 4 different BUIS......Troy M4 style, Magpul MOE, Magpul Pro and Samson Mfg.........they all work equally well to be honest but my preference is the Magpul Pro for the simple reason that they have such a small profile.

This.....Magpul Pro are my favorite BUIS that I have used.

If you are going to set up an upper with irons only, why not get fixed sights?

I just like that they fold down if I choose to put them on a rifle that has an optic and irons, kinda like my Kriss vector I forgot it even had irons cause their folded down

Why? Is there something I don't know about them? I have their BUIS on a number of guns and like them.
Something with their owner and what he did. Im not too sure maybe someone can post a link I never looked into it too much...I own like 3 things from TROY lol

Here's the short and skinny.

Back in 1992 there was an incident called Ruby Ridge. Mr. Weaver had apparently sold a shotgun to an undercover ATF agent(could have been another agency, can't recall doesn't matter) that had been shortened to fit his young son. The shotgun was too short and was considered an AOW(any other weapon) by the NFA rules which requires a $50 tax stamp. Weaver did not have nor obtain a tax stamp. Law enforcement charged him and he failed to appear.

Some time later some FBI guys, ATF guys, and some US Marshals decided to execute a warrant and arrest Weaver. The story from other literature and sources say the encounter went down like this:

Samuel Weaver, the son of Randy Weaver was out on the property with his dog and a family friend Kevin Harris. At some point 6 US Marshals apparently dressed in all black with MP5's and no identifying marks appeared from the woods having been discovered by the dog. The story goes that the Weaver family dog was shot at which point Harris and Samuel Weaver returned fire with their firearms. At the end of it the 14 year old son of Randy Weaver was dead(shot in the back) as was the family dog and one LEO killed by Harris.

After this incident a standoff began. On the second day of the standoff an FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi shot at Weaver and Harris under the belief they were attempting to shoot at a police helicopter. Horiuchi shot and killed Mrs. Weaver which reports indicate was inside the house. The shot intended for Harris hit Mrs. Weaver. The other sources and literature indicate that she was transiting between the house and garage for food or other supplies when she was shot. There's more details and more f**ked up parts but you get the point. Lon Horiuchi murdered Mrs. Weaver, other agents murdered her son, Mr. Weaver was wounded as was Harris. The seige ended after 11 days and in the end Harris was acquitted on all charges and Weaver got nailed with two minor ones(failure to appear and the weapons charge). Sources say the cost of surveillance for the Ruby Ridge incident was more than that spent monitoring Manuel Noriega..

Lon Horiuchi was charged with manslaughter some years later but the federal courts used their muscle and dismissed the case without cause. Harris and Weaver both sued the US gov and won a lot of money for their criminal behavior..

So here's how it relates to Troy.

Lon Horiuchi had a partner/second sniper with him. That POS is Dale Monroe, who TROY had hired to instruct in their training division. Monroe has been quoted as saying "I would have fired if Lon didn't" referring to the shooting of Mrs. Weaver..

It gets better. This gem of knowledge regarding TROY and their inability to do a background check was only discovered after the first poor choice in hiring. TROY had originally announced that they were going to hire Jody Weis, a former Chicago PD superintendent who is openly ANTI GUN!

So two complete losers, one an anti gun zealot and the other an accomplice to murder. Both hired by TROY... so...

F*&K TROY
