ironically bringing back the Whelen

Built a 35 sambar for a friend a few years back on a savage action (16 if i remember right). Was faster than the 35 whelen or 350, but slower than the 358 NM. Very easy to open up 300 wsm necks for 35 bullets, and made a really nice, easy to carry little hammer. I liked it over the 300, about on par with the 325. - dan

yeah fair call too Dan, i dont prsonally see much point unless just cos, over a 325wsm factory ready to go lol. but i do understand the want and need.

Im off in the AM, chasing big rutty Sambar , it had been a toss up between the 30-06 or the 35-06 ;) but im going to tote the big one seeing as its only a half day hunt , bush stalking to retreieve a camera before it rains tomorow night..
fingers crossed, confirmed a zero with the Partitions just before this evening, spot on an ready to roll.

as much as i love the lighter gun , unless im spending all my time behind it, i at the wrong times- struggle to shoot it straight esp off hand - which alot of bush hunting is...
so ive gone back to the heavier trigger and heavier gun in general-- i seem to be rock solid with ol Ruger / Whelen combo :)

will post some trail cam photos as its been on a game trail for oh, 10 days now i rekon-- should be passing it most days :)

Good luck, hope it is a successful hunt for you. Look forward to the pics. I got invited on a stag hunt when I was working in NZ, hmm, must be 15years back now. Beautiful country. - dan
