Hi all,

First a big thanks to all who contribute to this great forum, lots of really great information.

I have a Norinco M14 heel marked Outdoor Arms.

Followed all the FAQs on CGN. Everything is as it should be regarding fit and alignment.

With the iron sights set centre with 10 clicks up on the rear (mark before the 2) I am getting 4 inches low and 3 inches right at 25 metres. I should be able to get the front sight moved to bring it into line (3 inches would adjust out?), but 4 inches low seems to be too far out.

Ammo was Aussie mil surp. Rifle is clean and greased.

I am not putting a scope on the 14 and want to leave it stock. Have only fired 10 rounds the rifle is brand new. Intended use Service Rifle maybe close hunting. Only brought it as a buddy for my No 4 mk1 * 0.303 :)

Thanks

Thats a little close to sight these guns in( 4 times the settings at a 100 yrds). Try for 100mts/yrds. It doesn't matter what the set up is to get you on target. Just dial it in. Thats zero. You wont be out of adjustment. I set the front sight up by moving it, and try to keep the rear sight zeroed. Once the front is set it doesn't matter if its hanging off the side. Just leave it, thats where thre gun shoots

You have done everything right so far:

* 10 clicks up on the rear sight
* keep that rear sight centered in the vernier and only tweak the front sight (left or right)

Remember that the front sight is moved in the OPPOSITE direction you want the POI to move.

So with that in mind, the "Match shooter" in me wants to FILE down your front sight. Spares are easily had when you screw up (done this 2x  ) and file down too far. :D

All I do is keep filing until my group is sighted at 100m and my rear sight is up about 8 to 10 clicks from absolute bottom. If you mess up, Brownells has lots of front sights!

Hope this helps,

Barney

Thanks guys, just the info I needed.

Will get the file and stones to the front today and get it close to 3 x 8 thousands of an inch and move the sight in the correct direction approx. 3 x 8 thousands of an inch. This should be in the ball park for fine tuning and leave some front filing to be done at the range.

The range I use is 10 minutes drive away and is 100 metres. Normally I start zeroing at 25, then fine tune at 100.

Looks like it is going to rain here today so won't be able to get to the range this week.

Ok got a chance to get to the range, all good and shooting "bang" on. Thanks again for the advice filing the front post did the trick!

I'm glad that all has worked out for you. And that's why this forum is the happiest on the CGNutz board. :D Well, I could be mistaken.

Cheers,
Barney

I think we are the happiest...well, because, how could anyone be un-happy when playing with a M14 type rifle. Mine puts a grin on my face every time i see her... lol.
