One is we're human and for some reason it's in our nature to generalize and characterize a group of people according to their perceived undesirable traits. Sadly I too am guilty of this.
I would like to add however, something that really got to me was school. In the early grades there was a native student who was clearly more intelligent than everyone else in the class. His grades were untouchable. Then getting to grade 10, his enthusiasm for school disappeared, his grades disappeared and he fell into a life of questionable choices. I don't blame him, or his parents. I blame a system that has separated Canadians for far too long.
