Hey guys. I am new to modifying ARs. What do I need to know to change my front site (gas block) to a low profile style? I have the removable carry handle so there is a rear rail for optics but the front post interferes.

Also what do I need to know in order to buy an after market front hand guard. Looking for a tube style.

Get a front sight block, a set of taper punches, a set of straight punches, a friend and a BIG hammer.. You'll also need an armourer's wrench. The thoughest part of the job is driving out the pins on the front sight block.. Here's what makes it reasonably easy:

1) Get your friend to hold your front sight down on the block, so you have both hands free
2) Put the biggest taper punch that is just smaller than the pin, place it on the pin and give it a HARD whack with a hammer to get the pin started, do the same with the other pin
3) Finish driving them out with a correct-sized straight punch

Another tip: Get an upper vise block... Makes work a lot easier than a thick piece of carpeting in a vise

Remove the front sight as stated above. You'll also need the armourers wrench to get the flash hider/muzzle brake off. I STRONGLY recommend using the proper tools to secure the upper receiver in the vice when you're doing this. Either an upper receiver vice block or the other tool that secures it from the barrel extension (I forget what they're called.... Someone help me out here)

You'll also need a punch small enough to knock out the gas tube roll pin. Order another roll pin when you order the new gas block in case one gets damaged. The new gas block will likely be secured using set screws, so installing it will be pretty straight forward.
