I am going to see a M1 Carbine and the seller says it is marked "Irwin Pedersen" .....he thinks it is quite valuable!!.....any info on what I should be looking for appreciated....Thanks

my take on it would be not to over pay , as the market for collectible carbines in Canada is very small. there is quit a bit of m1 info on the net that you can read about irwins. apparently ,there production was stopped for out of speck parts ?

less then 7200 rifles completed contract cancelled taken over by S'G' in the US they are worth a lot I have 3 I have seen 4 including my 3 in Canada I got 2 from lever arms way back and 1 from districorp again way back

I would say its a safe queen not a shooter as they are the rarest m1 carbines

If this in fact is an I-P that is not a mixmaster & not gone thru a rebuild, that would be a rare carbine. Chance are it has, so yes it's a rare receiver only . It would only command a little higher price. Any carbine that is still as-original would be more valuable, even more would be an M1A1 as issued, or and early Inland with Canadian Broadarrow stamps.

I-P made 3,542 fully assembled carbines, but over 24,000 carbines with I-P stamped receivers were delivered to the US Government, courtesy of Saginaw S'G'. Majority have Underwood and Rock-Ola barrels.

Be aware that fake and replica parts abound, as I-P's are perceived to be real collectables.
