Is $120 too much for a Cooey?

Yes, I have bought Cooeys for $75.00 as well, in fact just received one. But there is a big difference in it and the NIB one that I have that I paid $200.00 for. It all depends on condition, model and condition. I also have an old rabbit smooth bore from around 1927. I have never seen another. You won't get it for $100.00, at least not from me, or the model 62 target gun with both factory apertures or the 82 military trainers or the model 35 pump I have.

Cooey single shots have sold for as low as $75 at gun shows, to 125.
I think this is the type of fire arm which will increase in price, now that the registration is gone.
I had a table at a gun show the very first year that long guns had to be registered. Low priced firearms took a beating, because no one wanted to bother with the hassle of registering the cheapies.
I will have at least three Cooey single shot rifles at my table at the Kamloops gun show this weekend. One, a pre Winchester, is just like new and it will be priced no less than $125.
With no registrations, I wouldn't be surprised if the average price for single shot Cooeys would be at least $125.

Won't pay over $100 for a nice Cooey. Never have, never will. They are a dime a dozen and frankly, I have them given to me for free all rusted up from sitting in a barn for years. A little elbow grease and $10 of supplies brings them up to standard.

I own a Cooey whose bore was shot "smooth".......the rifling's literally been dulled to near-nothing , and it's a single-shot !....

50 bucks at the most.. .. keep it to put down hogs on the farm for butcherin.. otherwise good rifle for the kids to start out on when the get their license.. who care if they shove sand in the barrel, it may actually improve the legendary cooey accuracy

like some others said.. . by a savage and get a shooter for that price

I'm sure you do. But I'll guarantee it is not the same model as the one I'm referring to. If you are into collecting them you will know what I mean.
Sure not every Cooey is worth over $100.00 and that is why condition is a big factor. And yes you can get any gun for free if someone wants to give them away, especially if they are a rusted piece of metal.
And yes, you can buy a new single shot for somewhere around $140.00. Comes with a hardwood stock, stamped alloy and plastic. If the gun is in nice condition, I would rather have walnut and steel, including the buttplate, plus a little bit of Canadian history. But that's me--to each their own.
With any gun, one can say "oh , I picked one up for $65.00". Doesn't mean much because the next person will say they paid $200.00 for the same model. It all depends on condition. Is the gun the OP is asking about worth $120.00? It is hard to tell from one pic, maybe it's only worth $75.00. We don't even know what it is for sure.

My dad has one. I've had trouble with it before but I've also never known it to have been cleaned so I don't know about the quality. I can say that if I ever lost it I might pay a good penny for one just like it down the road for sentimental value.

Don`t know anything about them other than what is said on this site. A guy has one advertised for sale. I asked for a pic and then re-emailed him for a model. Still awaiting to see what model it is. Here is the pic he sent:

That looks like a model 39 Cooey. It also had some different trade names but it is a model 39. They are a decent quality single shot 22 and as good quality-wise as the entry level savages, and they don't have any plastic BS like all the new savage rifles that cost twice that much. The M39 cooey is an accurate, well made entry level .22 rifle.

They are a great first rifle for a kid because they aren't self-cocking - you need to manually #### to fire, which is a great safety feature for new shooters. If it's in good condition then IMO it's worth $75-$100. Maybe offer the seller $100 and see what he says.
