is 2493 fps a lot for a 9.3x62 with 286 grains?

That's a good speed. Nothing I wouldn't expect. I get similar results with 286's.

Around 2400-2500 is normal in my rifles. Faster with the 270 gr bullets. - dan

I was getting 2450 with Nosler Partitions and RL15, so an extra 40 fps is not surprising.

Hey Phil, I get 2600 with 270s in a 20" CZ FS, so I don't think you're crazy.........I've never tried 286s in the X62.........I reserve them for my 9.3X300WM.

that is right but the europeans to get that speed need a 9.3x64 ....

the surprise was more coming that with 59 grains of varget and a barrel lenght of 24 inches they got only 2350 fps while with just over 22 inches i got 2493 fps at 6 paces from the muzzle.

the europeans are really conservative on loads due to old rifles but with a modern rifle i imagine that a 9.3x62 can handle the same pressure as a 270 or 30-06.

Phil, using reformed W-W 30-06 brass, I can reach past 2500 with 286g bullets in two 20 1/2" barreled rifles.

Your Zastava with its three inch longer barrel is doing the same thing, and probably with lower pressures.

glad to hear what im reading here because on a french forum i will be hang high and short just putting the 9.3x62 into the regular load of the 9,3x64 ....

We can reform that Hornady and Remington 9.3X62 brass to correct headspace whenever it works for you, Phil.

That's good velocity for the 62. I was loading my 9.3x64 to 2650 with the 286 partition
