I just bought a 1957 marlin 336. the barrel is in great shape. bolt was a little dirty, but cleaned up nice. wood had some marks on it which i mostly got out. no cracks that I can see. crown is good. was 375 including a box of .30-.30 worth it?
I had it out at the range and it shoot real nice. action is nice and smooth.

Alright, give us picks, the whole gun. wood, action, both sides. A billion pics of the gun is worth squat. Percent of bluing left? has the stock been redone? Does it function?

If you tell me it has less than 50% blueing on the metal an the stock is #####ed, yeah you paid to much.

Sounds like you are a happy camper,I think you just answered your own question. My father has the same vintage rifle in 35 Remington that is still nice and smooth and shoots just great. My opinion only as an "armchair commando" but I think you did fine on the deal.Enjoy that gun.

My Marlin 30-30 just told me that you bought her twin sister.
1957 was the start of the models with micro groove rifling and drilled on top for the now standard 4 screw scope base.
They started a new serial number range at this time, with the letter R preceding the number and indicating made in 1957/58.
Obviously, the lower the number, the sooner it was made after this change over.
My little girl has number R 1667, as can be seen.

So what is the serial number of yours?

Black Raven, what is the serial number?
You said 1957/58, so it must start with an R, but what is the rest. Wondering how far it was from mine shown.
And gt am I bad for posting a picture of a beloved Marlin, or is it only looky that shouldn't do it?
