is .40 dead?

I still shoot both .40 and 9mm and to be honest don't prefer one over the other. I've got a Glock 17 and 22 and love shooting both. I end up going through more 9mm ammo because of allowing others/new shooters to use the 17.

. 40 does seem to be declining..... 40 pistols can be had real cheap on ee.... that's how I got my Glock 35... it's a dream to shoot... I wonder if 40 ammo or projectiles will become scarce/expensive in the coming years due to the decline In demand...

40S&W is a staple round. It will never die. Last Thursday, I was shooting 9mm, .40S&W & .45ACP at the range. I'd say I shoot 9mm the most & 40S&W second most.

The only thing "dead" about .40 is your bank balance. The last batch of factory ammo I bought was from Western Metal and it was a hair over 9mm per 1000. If we all had the luxury of CCW there may be more of a discussion. Figure 11s are defeated by holes of any diameter. I choose calibre by firearm type....modern gun-newer calibre, classic gun-classic calibre. Judging the merits of calibre by govt contract isn't the be all end all.

My favorite all around is the 45 ACP even if it cost more, it's worthed, the 40 is a good caliber, i have stashed high 2K of AE 165 GR 40 S&W...

Quality of the pistol make a huge difference... JP.

My first. 40 was a Ruger P94. I loved that gun for its sleek looks however, the grips were too big for me and the "snappiness" of the round made me trade it for a redhawk .44. A few years later I picked up a police return G22 at a good price.....love it! Great round in the right gun and ugly as they are ( yeah, I WENT there!) the G22 is perfection for the. 40 IMHO.
