Is .455 Webley and .455 Eley the same?

Yes. Colt stamped their .455" New Service Revolvers "455 ELEY" because they would not put a competitor's name, Webley, on their products. Similarly they slightly modified the 32 S&WL,38S&W and 38 S&W Spl ctgs to give them Colt names so they would not have to stamp S&W on their pistols.

Is .455 Webley and .455 Eley the same cartridge?

Thank you

No it is not, but the chambers are usually interchangeable.

The case diameter and rim size are the same, the difference is in the length of the case.

The .455 Colt/Eley is actually the longer .455 MkI cartridge.

The .455 Webley is basically the shorter .455 MkII cartridge.

British chambers are usually to the MkI spec so the cartidges interchange similar to the .38/.357 situation.

Thanks for the replies, it's all very interesting. To take this one step further - as well as .455 Webley, can I also shoot .455 Colt through my .455 Eley Colt New Service?
