I have shot imperial and european 6.5 x 55 ammo for years in my Swedish mausers and reloaded lots too. On whim i picked up a couple boxes of Federal fusion in 6.5 x 55. I got to thinking after this as to if this stuff is too strong for the old guns and if its just meant for the newer production guns? i couldnt find any info on this , any ideas?

EU ammo is probably still loaded to higher pressure, I wouldn't worry about it.
Plus they have been converted into just about every long and short action round in the universe without a history of kb's.

6.5 x 55 is 6.5 x 55. Federal would be sued stupid if any ammo they loaded was unsafe in any rifle and they didn't loudly announce the fact.

The main issue with 6.5x55 is the older guns that shoot this ammunition - like the Krags - that aren't rated as strong as the Mauser.

You should be fine with most hot loads in the Mausers.

[Edit: And the gent just above confirms fine in his Krag too!]

Depends on how often you shoot the rifle. Just because a gun doesn't blow up at the time the trigger is pulled doesn't mean the hotter loads are good for it. I'm talking the Krag in this case. If you are just shooting the odd round then it may be okay. Over time though could be a different story.

I just realized all my 6.5x55 are built on German '98 actions, and all my 8x57 are built on Swede '96 actions....that ain't right, time to buy more guns!
