SWFA only does direct to consumer so I can't go to a store to try it out. I can always return it, of course. The Meopta is nice for sure, but twice the price. I can't say that I've heard of SWFA scopes failing under recoil. I've heard the opposite, that they are extremely robust. Apparently scopes do often fail with certain types of recoil (like from air guns or something, I forget) and apparently the SWFA scopes are much more robust to that sort of recoil as well. I'd be happy to see any such reports though, please share!
Is 6x magnification too much for deer hunting in the North East?

After reading your responses to the responses I urge you to get that SWFA fixed 6x. You'll never be happy with anything else unless you try that scope and find it unsuitable.
(I think you'll find it unsuitable. Then you'll have to buy another gun for that scope and find a use for it. Maybe a range rifle, or it could take you hunting somewhere else where the terrain and cover is different. A world of possibilities. Proper Gunnutz solution, that is.)

Get an old steel tube K series Weaver. K3, K4, K6. Will do anything you need to do for deer hunting. Shouldn't cost more than $100.
If you want to pay a bit more, a M8 Leupold fixed power scope has a bit more class.
In most Ontario deer hunting country, longer shots are the exception. A lower powered scope is very effective.
