Is 7mm mag sufficent enough for big game.

Hmmm....took me less than 5 minutes to go through his posts and find enough insulting infractions to give him a little time away.

I'm sorry guys, I guess I haven't been watching closely enough in here and let him slip by. Hopefully after a little cool down he can come back with a better attitude. GT has promoted a couple new mods to CGN and one of them is giving me some help in here soon so things are gonna get watched alot more, but still with the same amount of "just having fun" like it's always been.

I used H4831sc in my 7WSM too, great accuracy, but like someone said, other powders may lead to better velocities. I'm still on the look for the elusive RL-17.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my latest 'toy' isn't a 7mm Mag, but it's close, a 7x61 S&H. My initial starting point with a lot of my 1st reloads for any newly acquired rifle, is with Sierra's accuracy loads. Not always but on many occasions starting there has saved me a lot of trial & error. The plan for this caliber is to follow that past practice so in all likelihood it will be a start with either the Sierra 150gr SBT or the 160gr SBT and using IMR 4350.

Posting these for Johnn:

Just second guessing why i joined this site, just re-read it since my last post #55. You know i have several friends on here and they don't post a single thread, Why because the second they do they get slammed. Good on you member's, want to throw the guy to the fire for asking a question. Would any of you throw your friend in the fire around a moose camp if they asked that question???

OMG not another thread on 7mm, that was meant to be sarcastic by the way, you seen 7mm in the thread title yet you still choose to enter into it.
No one could handle it, but yet it receive's almost 3000 views. Fourth most on the whole forum page.

When regular member's or Long time members are scared to post a nice refreshing topic, Get used to it because the majority of questions are going to be from newbie's, How about what is the best calibre for deer??? Duh there will be lynching of the poor feller.

Good on ya to the 12 members out of 168posts that actually posted about the 7mm, it is guy's like you that will may keep this forum fresh. Or maybe we can all act like a bunch of big sand kicking bullies to the stupid question.

My advice to some is if you see a thread that might get the vein in you neck to expand like a garden hose is don't enter it.Plain and simple

For what it is worth, i think and know from my experience that a 7mm is just fine would of liked to know the concensus from other members, should of asked the question on an american forum. I am sure they would all tell it is too small as they love recoil and big bore. This whole paragraph is the way some of the answer's should of come in. So thanks for sharing and if you care to slam or throw me to the fire have at er. Cause i am not checking back on this thread, guy's did a great job ruining it. I also hope my spelling was good enough for the critic's

enough said!!!

rubber nose, sorry your thread got hijacked. The 7mm Rem mag is considered very good for large game, but on that note, bigger is better sometimes. I'm not an elk hunter, I've gone for elk once. For longer shots(farmer's field) the regular elk guys had just bought 300 ultra mags. I had my 30-06, and never got a chance to shoot anything anyway. I was told to put more than one shot into the boiler room, and that elk are very tough. If you can shoot it in the head, your caliber is more than suficient.

PS no one has anything against 7 mm around here, one member has been starting a new thread about 7mm everyday for months, and everyone is fed up with his blathering nonsense. Most people here are helpful, so stick around. :welcome:

Rubber nose, this is one buggered thread, one guy even got booted over it.

If you want to start another one just p.m. me and I'll get rid of this thread and start you off on the right foot again.

A couple trolls got the regs all worked up in the last couple weeks so things should start getting back to normal now that the trouble makers are gone.

OMG, please don't start a new one!!!! Haha But you should put a fight thread in each section of the forum that way after two low blows each they have to go to the fight section, where they can have their war or words.

Maybe we can call it the JOEPRAH THREAD

Beside's i didn't mind it too much, gave me a great feel of who the bottom feeders are. Thanks anyways.

270WSM actually does outsell it, at least around here

Maybe so, but it still won't and can't outshoot or outsmack the 7RM pretty well across the board for a lot of reasons. Biggest one being that we haven't had almost 50 years to screw around with the short mags. 7mm Rem Mag is the only REAL 7-em-em IMO and destined to always be in the top 5 of the best calibers of all time. That said, I think I'm headed out this week to buy myself, of all bloody things, a new .270WSM cause I miss my old .270 Win so much. As far as belted cases being old hat, overbore, inefficient, barrel burning wastes of powder that the marketers of the WSM's, RCM's, SAUM's, whiz-bang lever gun revolutions......well, B.S.
Is the 7 Rem Mag good enough for big game? Gee, I dunno. Might have to check with Boddington or Chuck Hawkes on that one - apparently nothing under a .33 should be used for elk (except of course an ought-six)
