9mm usually refers to the 9mm Luger which has a case of 9 x 21
.380 is also known as 9mm short and has a case of 9 x 17.
Since both are rimless, they rely on the case mouth to chamber and as such,
the difference in case length would make them not interchangeable.

The only 9mm pistol that apparently would digest a variety of 9mm cartridges is the Astra 400.

I have fired 40 S&W in a 45ACP and 9mm in a 40. (And 223 in a 7.62x39) And 308 in a 306.
The extractor will sometimes hold the smaller round on the bolt face and it will fire.
.
lol intentionally!?! Or do you need your glasses checked?! Sounds like the sort of thing I would (and have once, now that I think about it) do accidentally!
I've heard .40 can be fired in a 10mm, but I've never tried it... thought it would be a bad idea
