Is a 10-40x50 overkill on a .22LR?

Do you think that a 10-40x50 power scope is too much on a .22LR when most shooting is done within 30-40 meters? Will I get a clear sight picture at close range shot (eg. 25yds) or will that be blurry or parallax problems?

I have a 9-36x40 on my .22 and its perfect for 20yds. or longer if you need it. Our range is 50 yds. and we shoot at 20 and 50 yd. targets so it fits the bill perfectly.

Think about it: You could be shooting smiley faces on the paper. :)

That sounds like a plan. I should actually try that once. I also like to shoot at objects like spent casings and stuff like that! It's fun!

It's not too much for 30-40 meters but on the other hand it's more then you need. 10-40X would be much more useful for precision shooting at around 80 or 100 meters. Something up to 24x is more then enough for under 50 meters but if you're taking the occasional longer shot's past that the 10-40X scope is fine. But don't go too cheap or the resolution will be of too poor quality to be of much use at the higher magnification levels.

i use a 6-24x42AO tasco on my 151K mossberg, and find it dark to look through, the AO is is quite stiff to turn aswell Next time its a better scope i buy!

i do like the ability to crank up the power and see the holes at 100yrd though :D

:)

It's nice to see the same hole split a little larger with each shot (most of the time).

Look at a Weaver then if you want power V24 or you can get a T36
They will give you the focusing you need on a rimfire.

the tasco should be fine 10-40 you will most likely lose resolution (clarity) on the tasco before you reach 40x. If you looking for a high magnification tasco there was a guy selling a CUSTOM SHOP model on the EE forum they are far better then the production models put out today.

If you want a scope with good optics and can do everything you want it to get the Weaver T24. If your into shooting ARA or 1R 50/50 then you can go up to the Weaver T36. both have 1/8 click and 1/8 min dots, for more precise shooting.

Yeah, I'll probably stick with the Tasco Target/Varmint 2.5-10x42. I have that scope on another .22 and on a .223 and it works excellent. I usually only use it with like 6x and lower. Thanks for the feedback, though!

I use a fixed 10x (elite 3200) on my "target" 22 and at 50 its enough to see every hole and fly and ant on the target, more power while not going to be a problem necessarily isn't really necessary.
