Is a Glock RTF2 comparible to a grip covered in skateboard tape?

I've been thinking about adding a G17 RTF2 to my pistol lineup and was wondering if anyone who owns one could let me know if the grip feels like a grip covered in Skate tape? I've read a few reviews and most people complained that the the grip was way too rough, but I think that's really what I'm looking for. I don't know, maybe I have sweaty hands, but I find that a coarse surface on the back & front of the grip really helps keep me stay on target. Like how rough are we talking hear? Some people seem to describe it like it's handling a cheese grater and that you'll destroy any clothing article you decide to wear while CCW (not that we need to worry about that). I'd love to be able to handle one first, but I mainly just do mail order and hope for the best. Thanks for any input from those who actually own one.

P.S. This post doesn't require any feedback if you think the RTF2 slide serrations are ugly or if you think Glocks are plastic pieces of ####e. I like trying out firearms unfamiliar to me.

Are we talking about the same thing? Some people call a RTF2 a G4 when it's actually just a G3 variant. I think the the G4 has a toned down version of an RTF2.

Yes, the Gen4 is less abrasive than the RTF2. Either way, the grip texture will give you blisters if you do a lot of dry firing / reload drills.
 
What?? The Glock 17 with the RTF2 (Gen 3) is great. I tried the grip textured change on the Gen 4 and hated it, no fear of me buying one of those. The RTF2 on the 17 is great, keeps it in hand great, and feels real good. Plus the serrations are great; the main reason I never bought a glock was I hated the look of those straight vertical cuts, the rounded ones changed my entire opinion and when I saw and handled my 17 RTF2, I had to have two.
 
I just picked up a G19 RTF2... it is rather abrasive (very comparable feel to skateboard tape)... Id compare it somewhere between 220 - 300+ sandpaper...I'd highly recommend trying to find a shop to grip one...its a I love it or hate it grip...

Like I said.. its comparable...but it doesnt have the same feel as tape wrapped on a grip... theres no give, imagine the skateboard tape/sandpaper as part of the polymer grip...

Maverick, I think you just provided the most helpful information possibe by saying that there's no give. That's what I want. I'm not a baby and I don't care if I lose a little skin as long it provides me with a positive grip. That's what caluses(sp) are for LOL. Also, when I said that I was looking into a G17 RTF2, I wasn't aware that any G19 RTF2 (restricted) had made there way into Canada. That's actually what I would prefer. Where did you pick yours up and do you know if they still stock them?

There frikin Awesome to deal with! Ive bought many many things from them..

Little pricey.. $999 but thats what you have to expect when buying a compact.

I think they had 1 G19 RTF2 and 2 G23 RTF2 left the other day
 
I guess I am in the minority and prefer the "goofy" curved ones as opposed to the rigid robotic straight ones that every gun seems to have.:stirthepot2:G:
