I was think about putting up a mineral fountain from rackstacker next year, and I was just wondering if you could consider this as bait. I know in ontario that you can not hunt over bait, and I was think about putting it in the tree line were my stand is. So what do you guys think.

Waste of time and money if there are bears in the area, The bears will just climb the tree and eat it all.

First pic is me setting up my mineral drip

Below are the results,After several shots i believe the bears moved my camera down the tree and too the left.

Well thats good news for me, I think I'll have to also move a feeded into the area. Has anyone had much success with the mineral fountains? Also what would be a good feed to use in SW ontario?

I use mineral blocks instead of the fountain... As for feed, I planted a clover plot and have lots of apple trees on my land to feed them naturally and a tripod feeder full of corn... In the winter I put out alfalfa cubes for them also...

Try and use a tree that is dead, they will eat the bark right off of it. I did not have one in the area I wanted to put the fountain on and there is bite marks all over tree. They will also eat up all the ground around the base of the tree.

Just go to a local co-op and buy a big bright blue salt block. Find a semi decayed deciduous stump and stick it on it.

We tried one of those mineral fountains but found the damn moose kept knocking it off the stump. They inspect and lick the salt block, but dont knock it off.

The moose would not knock it off because you are supposed to cut a tree off at 8 feet and screw the mineral fountain bucket to the top.

I also mixed some of the powder with water and poured it into an old stump and they tore the stump to ground level getting at the mineral salt.

BTW Saber, that's a real nice buck, though he is pretty rude for sticking his tongue out at the camera lol

We had it up above my head height, with the bucket screwed into the top. They still managed somehow. We stopped with the mineral licks and just went to salt blocks. They dont bother them, but are obviously still attracted.
