Is a semi worth it

Benelli has patented different inertia drives since 1968. Ultimately it's irrelevant, the Benellis came to prominence with the Super Black Eagle series. Where the gas guns began their ascent much sooner.

Ok, but my point was in reference to your first comment about gas guns being of a carry over from a different time and that you can't believe people still shoot them. Im just stating a fact that inertia guns have been in existence for longer and while they have evolved over time, so have gas autoloaders. And as others have mentioned, a quality gas autoloader has often times proven to be more reliable across a broader spectrum of shells....not to mention far more recoil friendly. I hated every Benelli I owned and none of the 3.5” guns cycled target loads with any sort of consistency. I don’t have any of these issues with my current gas guns.

I do really like my Franchi 48’s but they are long recoil actions so very different then the Benelli offerings

A lot of things were designed 100 plus years ago and still being used every day with many revisions however also many are no where close to as good as far as quality or performance as the first 100 year old ones were
As I get ready to go our side with my 35 year old honda blower :) and 34 year old Sorel boots :)
Cheers

The thread is about buying a Benelli or Beretta, which was what my statement was based on.

Please reread my initial post in the thread.
Sure.....and I’ll quote it again and bold the part that I and others are referring too

Personally I'd go (and went) Benelli. They just fit me better than Berettas do. I also detest gas guns. I can't believe anyone shoots them in this day and age. Carry over from a different time I suppose.

Yes....and its completely irrelevant to what the point of my posts have been which was and remains a direct reference to your false statement that gas guns are a carry over from a different time.....which they are absolutely not!

Gas guns as they're used today are a design from the 60's. Inertia systems as typically used today by Benelli and Browning were introduced in the early 90's. I'm not sure why you're pretending that's not what I was referring to, specifically when my post was in response to him asking "Benelli or Beretta"?

Benelli super sport.

I have a Beretta and while it's good, I find it doesn't point as nice as the benelli.

Benelli yes and semi over pump yes. I had Benelli pump for years, then I got Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 and latter Benelli M2. The pump is long gone and I don’t mess it. Prefer the M2 over black eagle. Great all around gun!

Tell that to your shoulders when you get my age. I love the pumps but when shooting heavy waterfowl loads the semi is sure a nice addition as one ages
Cheers

I'm 62, but the number of rounds I fire in a days hunting is not beating me to death yet. I don't care for semis in general, but the few that I have enjoyed have all been inertial-operated ones, which don't do much to reduce recoil. I know gas guns supposedly shoot softer, but I just don't like the concept or the cleaning. For utility, give me a pump. To add some class to the experience, give me a double (SxS, please). Don't give me a semi at all. I like them for plinking at targets on a makeshift action course behind the barn, and not much more.

Absolutely yes. First the recoil feels softer. Second you will have higher and more effective firing rate

I might buy that notion, if we weren't limited to 3 rounds in the gun. Who cares if the semi lets me shoot 3 rounds in a fraction of a second less than the pump? Hitting...or missing...a tad slower is immaterial.

Come to think of it, I might gain some advantage when coyote hunting, but I rarely use a shotgun for that, so...meh.

Which gas operated shotguns from the 60s could shoot light target loads to 3-1/2" waterfowl loads reliably?

f:P:

Im done wasting time going in circles with this. Your statement was false....period! You are apparently under the assumption that inertia guns is the only system that has evolved. I cant help you understand that you are wrong
