Is a tumbler worth it?

I hate the fact that after tumbling I have to clean media off of the cases, and out of the flash holes, so I am definitely going to be purchasing the kit from them.

You will love this setup SJ. The biggie for me was not having to clean primer pockets. Not having to dig corncob out of the flash hole was a close second. And did I mention no dust??

The snipers hide web site is back up and running here is the thread I was telling you about. http://www .snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1513345#Post1513345
With 1966 replies it will take a while to read it all but there is some interesting reading and pictures to see.
"suasponte" is the guy that you need to contact to get the info on the SS media.

There's a few things I have bought over the basic equipment that I absolutely love, even if they are not totally needed. Number 1 is a Hornady powder measure. Number 2 is a lyman turbo pro 1200 case cleaner and the third is a lee factory crimp die for my 45-70.

Now I have them, there is no going back on any of them.

If you don't want to cough up the cash for one, you can make one out of an orbital sander and a gallon paint can (garage sale sander, 3$, paint can, free). I've been using one for years. Haven't tried it with SS media, though.

For those guys with stainless media...

Does the media ever get dirty...and what happens to the dirt and sand etc.

The media soup is filthy when done. I rinse it in a wire strainer after flushing the whole mess a couple of times with hot water. So all the crap goes down the drain. The media never wears out, unlike the media in a vibratory tumbler.

Its not just about making the brass shiny, it removes the lube off the cases once resized.
having that said, if you help it along by using a brass brush and primer hole reamer, it nets results that much faster.

Some of those pics look like brass was pulled out of a swamp. I toss it in the brass-salvage pile when it looks that bad.

Wouldn't you want to clean them prior to resizing? Unless you do it before and after. I am using Imperial Sizing wax so little is used and it wipes off easily. I would want them clean prior to putting them through my die. Maybe I am missing something. All comments appreciated and I will probably go the SS route based on the info provided.

Zuke,

Where does a fella get SS media??

There a guy named Mark out of the state's that is the originator of the SS process, but he doesn't like to deal with our money order's anymore. His bank charged him $15 to charge the last one's.
I sent him cash 2 1/2 year's ago so it all worked out for me.
There is another source for the pin's in the state's.

Tell them it's for reloading/brass tumbling, they'll set you up.
It's about $25 for 5 lbs, but it cost's more for shipping.
Maybe get a couple guy's together for a group buy?

For the tumbler I used http://www.canadiantreasureseekers.com/, but more specifically

http://www.canadiantreasureseekers.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=330

For $225.
That's in Canadian $ AND shipped!
Make sure it has the HIGH speed motor in it!

You can get Lemmishine at Canadian Tire. It's used in hard water treatment in dishwasher's (not the 2 legged kind).

Any other question's let me know!

I placed the order today, and am looking forward to selling off my old tumbler ASAP.

tumblers make alot of lead dust. danger.
I wouldnt run it indoors.
wear a mask when sifting its contents, etc.

I've read the story of a guy having lead poisoning because if its tumbler. (they discovered it later)

I use an ultrasonic cleaner with a drop of soap and half vinegar.... runs 1 hour. cases are super clean, so are primer pockets. no residues.

Bought it on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2-LITER...967?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19b659b1ef

130$. Super buy. I use it for all cleaning jobs.

I personally fill it to the line with water and use a glass beaker for the soap/vinegar/water mix. Easier to manage.
close the lid while it works I guess.

Defiantly try and get a buddy or two to order the stainless media with you I ordered 10lbs and shipping was $27 I'm guess you could get 20lbs for the same shipping rate. They used a flat rate box for my shipment and the box is allowed to weigh up 20lbs for the same rate.

Also the Ladies I talked to at Pellets were super helpful and very friendly.

How long does the stainless media last?
What is the procedure to rejuvinate it (I assume that is what you do?)?

Get your fact's straight.
You talking about an ordinary vibratory polisher.ie Lyman 1200.
When I mentioned Dove dishwashing soap I thought that made it pretty clear the Thumbler's tumbler is a wet system. It uses water.
No dust, and a far better result then the ultra sonic method.

Next question... anyone in the Vancouver area want to split shipping? Perhaps a few people at 5 lbs each?
I guess I could try buying and dumping the rest on EE... but I don't really want to get stuck with a $130 bill and a lot more media than I will ever need.
