I own a Reminton 870 Marine Magnum pump. I have avoided trap and skeet cause i figured the shot would spread too fast thus not hitting anything.

I always thought it was 26 for skeet, 28, or preferably 30 for trap. I do see guys out there with short single shots, so why don't you try the 18 and see how it shoots. Keep both eyes open, and shoot early!:)

i use a 28 inch 870 express and dont' do too bad. I will be getting an o/u sometime in teh future but for now she does just fine.

Are you talking about formal trap and skeet shooting, or just going out with a thrower and a case of birds? Generally skeet guns have open chokes, trap guns have lots of choke becasue of the ranges involved. One way to find out.....

X2 it's the choke them makes the constriction, not the length of barrel .
In an 18 " barrel if you have screw in chokes, give 'er a go!
You will likely want to get a longer barrel if you do some more , simply because of muzzle flip, swinging and sighting plane isuues however....

Its a cylinder choke on this gun. But your right just have to try it out.

i did some skeet shooting with my Moss 590's last summer think they have a 18 or 20" barrel cant remember, they did just fine though range was limited to about maybe 75yrds if i remember, still worked beyond that just not to good...

"75yds." Skeet shooting that must be one amazing setup.

The only thing I have against an 18" Barrelled Shotgun is the noise. They can be double the report of a 30" barrelled gun. Not so pleasant for the guy shooting next to you.

Just watch the club rules ,our club specifically allows only 24" and longer on the trap and skeet ranges ,short guns tend to wander around and muzzle control can become an issue so check it out first safety as ALWAYS is #!

I shoot a 18.5" barreled cyl choked mossy in skeet and get 21-23 with it. Its loud and I get stares cuz it has dual pistol grip side saddles and a heat shield. I have fun. Trap with it sucks but I only shoot 7/8oz loads. If I shoot quick I can break 16s all day. Its the best way to piss off hardcore trap shooters.
