Is an 18inch barrel to short for trap and skeet?

I'm up near kingston, a good 6 1/2 hours. I would like to visit your club someday, I'd ideally like to get around and see most of them in ontario, been to quite a few already. But I'd rather make that kind of trip in the summer time.

As for station 4 crossers, I wouldn't mind seeing your face when I break them from the hip ;)

Though it may take a whole box to hit one LOL :)

Well I'm still game for this challenge, but you'd have to use the short barrel, otherwise that kind of defeats the whole short vs. long purpose of our test.

I'd also be using 7/8's ounce loads for the skeet, I'm a candy ass 4 gun shooter, afraid of recoil :)

Let me know!

Ill post my scores. Ill even use the short barrel tonite for trap if I man up and go out on the line in the cold wind. Ill be up in kingston area in spring we could meet up and bang away at some targets. I'm always up for shooting. You'll prolly kick my ass in trap scores but ill give ya a for your money on the skeet feilds. I prefer my ithaca flues 4e for trap

Turkey loads, lol, I don't even own a 3" gun let alone 3.5''.

I am not a trap shooter by any stretch of the imagination. But I can hit a few ;)

I'm a 4 gun skeet shooter, I haven't been shooting much anymore, but I used to shoot about 2500-3000 competition registered targets a year.

come to the kingston club, any time and drop in. We're open weds. 12pm-3pm and sundays 9am-3pm roughly.

I'll post my scores sun. afternoon/evening

How does a $40 Cambodian Tire gift card sound???

You mentioned cambodian and got me thinking about a gurl I knew in college lol. I've never shot a 4 gun tournment altho I wanted to this summer in waterford but messed up my shoulder really bad. What kind of guns did you use if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to come up and shoot there when its warmer. Hard to shoot low gun consistently with winter clothes on. By spring ill have enough gas money saved to go if I don't buy another gun

I'm a hunter by nature so I upgraded to a 3.5" 12ga awhile ago altho it is not needed. I just dragged home a sxs 10ga last week now I gotta get a loader so I can shoot skeet with it lmao

Well, let's just say I've had a few guns ;)

But, I used for the longest time a Beretta DT-10 Trident sporting, 30" barrels and Briley Ultralight tubeset. Great gun a little heavy with the tubes in but I didn't mind, it had great wood.

Also had and used, 2 beretta 682's one with a kolar tubeset, one with briley, Krieghoff k-32 with briley tubeset, browning citori skeet with briley tubeset, the list goes on and on.

Nice collection. I'm thinkin I'm gunna get my ass handed kicked pretty bad. I managed to pull a 19 today with my 18.5" cyl choked mossberg fun gun. 13 in a practise round. Don't know if it was me I was freezing my ass off in the cold

Well, I don't own those guns anymore :( Oh well!

And I wouldn't on getting your butt kicked, I'm going to use my Great grandfathers 1930's lefever nitro special, SxS choked imp. cyl and REALLY full.

Double triggers, it should be, well lets say interesting...

Unless of course you want me to shoot my favourite 1100, then...

Lefevers are beautiful guns. I'm still looking for a 4e or 5 ithaca flues sxs in 20ga choked impcyl and mod to match my trap gun. I prefer sxs to o/u personally

Alright, I survived the trip to the club, -11 with the wind chill and shot between the snowflakes.

Didn't do as well on the skeet field as expected, shot a 23, as for trap I did better than I thought I would, I shot a 22. Was expecting something like 15-17

So I totaled 45 out of 50

How'd you do?

Best I could do today is 21 both practise and and 2nd round. It was cold and really windy the hi house. Threw me off on stations 3 4 and 5 and I dropped a low bird some ware. So my score is 40/50. Congrats to you. I'd like to get into skeet shooting at tournaments if you have any tips please pm me. As for the prize how you want to do this?

Nice shooting guys.

Does the short barrel get a handicap or is/was it even odds? :D

So is an 18" to short for trap and skeet?

Today the biggest handicap wasn't the barrel length but the weather. Damn cold wind today.

Very glad I didn't participate in the wager. Not one of my better outings today. A ceremonial score card burning was held after the round and all participants sworn to secrecy. Not even Wiki-Leaks will find out. ;)

Maybe it was the short barrel I was shooting. It was 28" instead of my usual 32. :)

What..... speak up eh! :D

Short barrels are louder for sure but I doubt they are twice as loud. I just get a chuckle everytime I read someone's post about how loud a shorter barrel. It's not like the long ones are quiet eh!

The level of sound is essentially the same (variable by shell/load etc) but longer barrels only seem to be less loud just because the sound exits farther from the ear due to its length. But if you were to put your head close to the end of the barrel on a longer shotgun (I highly do not recommend that) then you will hear the same sound as if you stood beside a shorty.
