I saw some kids throwing assault rocks at the beach today , I packed up my family and moved to a safer location ... The term Assault rifle is a misnomer in terms of Canadian Firearms . People need to unplug the TV and realise that WE are NOT the USA! Canada has very few mass shootings with Ak's or any other type of firearm. We already have very prohibitive gun laws that keep 2000000 gun owners in line, and while every thug, gang banger and miscreant can get a firearm very easily adding new laws and hurdles for the average law abiding joe will NOT change that .Change the court systems so these guys don't go free every few months ,change the policing system so they have the funding and the manpower to do their Job on the street level instead of having to dabble in Bureaucracy and make up new laws. Finally ENFORCE the laws already in place for things like Drugs ,assault,attempted murder, threats etc instead of looking for new charges to add ,simply to let the POS bargain down or walk on probation after a month or two served .

No, an SKS is a MODERN SPORTING RIFLE...legal description semi auto non-restricted long rifle. An assault rifle is a short barreled firearm capable of being selected to fire either semi automatically or fully automatically, and these are usually found in the military. You have to love liberal lefty media types that love to dramatize everything to get a bit more attention for their stories.

An SKS is as simple as any other rifle. Yes - currently nonrestricted, thank god! It was designed to be a multipurpose civilian and training rifle. It saw action in Vietnam and Cambodia in the 60's and 70's as a part of militias and defence. I HATE THE TERM ASSAULT RIFLE - grrr. Total misinformation on the whole topic!
