^ well "my understanding" is that if you chop a rifle down to a barrel length of less than 18" (18-1/2" for a semi-automatic), you have just created a prohibited weapon, but presumably, if there was some company out there who made shorty barrels for a Mosin or whatever, you could just go ahead & swap it out and get it registered as restricted, but also to further muddy the waters, any centrefire manual repeater (does not matter if it's smoothbore or rifled bore afaik) as long as it's a licensed manufacture shorty barrel, & the overall length is over something like (?) 26-1/2" it's considered non restricted, but my interpretation could be wrong - imagine that!
