Is anyone running a red dot on a lever action, specifically a top eject ?

How do you find the eyebox with the optic that far back? I know they're designed to work when mounted much farther forward.

It’s not bad… I have tried a more further forward mounted red dot on other rifles I have, and that works for me as well. I was just happy to have found an alternative to the iron sights for the Win. 1886, as I was on the verge of getting rid of it !!

I'm glad it's working out, but I'd certainly be careful with it. Maybe you already know, but a dovetail cut was never designed to handle much leverage. If you knocked the sight hard enough to worry something, the rail mount would probably (hopefully!) deform before the barrel dovetail was damaged.

I hear ya… I definitely wouldn’t want anything heavier on the rail. So far, so good though… hoping to get some more rounds on it this week, and monitor.

Rossi makes a picatinny rail for their M92, which are drilled a tapped just behind the rear sight. Might work for others with similar barrel contour if you are willing to D&T the barrel.

Dr Pearson's No-Drill Rails are well built for sure.

Well, there's this:

Turnbull Restorations sells them, but they won't ship to Canada.

I wish they'd been available in the '80's & 90's. My brother always had trouble with his shooting when he was still hunting, whether it was eyesight, or excitability, I'm not sure. I think something like that would have been just the ticket.

That's a great idea and makes sense for a gun that's already drilled for the classic rear peep sights. Using a modern micro pistol reflex sight keeps it nice and compact and low!

I got the Turnbull mount the year they came out and put it on my Browning Win71 carbine. Still haven't figured out best target to use with the 4 MOA red dot. Recently got this 3 shot, 100yd group with my standard reload, Hornady 200gr jsp and a stout load of H4831sc. I quit after 3 shots for obvious reasons. With that load I will on occasion get 2 shots out of 4 or 5 touching with my receiver sighted Winchester71, but average more like 1.5" iron sight 5 shot groups if I go slow and really focus. The fastFireII worked well on a black bear hunt a few years ago, easy peasey.
