I got a plan of going down to states for 1 weeks as soon as I get my CCW. I might go through some states which doesn't honor Utah and New hampshire's CCW. for example,if I go to NYC and do some shopping. I have to unload and lock my gun in the trunk. but I wonder if that already breaks the NYC's firearms law since I stop in NYC not only just pass through.

Welcome to Ameica's myriad gun laws. There are certain States and Cities I will not go to. NYC is one of them, California is another. Illinois is a drivethru only state. Too many chances in NYC, cops there are very hit and miss, if the Cop is having a bad day, they will confiscate your guns, if not no problems, but if you have your registration cards from your province I don't see where it would be an issue. The thing that gets ridiculous is In Colorado we have a fairly decent CCW system, but the City of Denver doesn't recognize any CCW's only LEO's can carry there. It has been brought to the State Supreme court on many occasions, but the get this stupid home rule clause soemhow, still don't understand how it works, you could check out the packing.org site, it should be beneficial to your question. Les

Just along the same lines..take AZ for example.....if i was to vacation there and did not have CCW but I did have all the other required documentation required for a NIA..what would my options be for carring/transporting my handgun while in the state?

What other states do not require a permit?

As stated above, AK and VT do not require a permit for concealed carry.

Some States (mostly in the west such as AZ, MT, but IIRC includes NH) do not require a permit for 'open carry'.

I checked packing.org and didn't find anything about Denver's concealed carrying prohibition.:( do you know any other city with such special local regulation in U.S.? since CO honors Utah's CCW,that would make us feel no problem and easy to be caught in Denver:eek:

Denver is a very bassackwards city, has been a big pain in the ass for as long as I have lived here. The outlying communities in the Denver Area allow CCW, just not Denver proper. Too much of a pain in my ass, so I just stick my pistol on the dash board for open carry, that is not restricted in the state. Hell Denver has a law that says illegals can't be tried for crimes, why it is known as a Sanctuary city. Drives me absolutely nuts. Feds have been trying for year to repeal Sanctuary City laws but have failed. Just to give you an I dea of how screwed up it is there. And don't get me started on the Peoples Republic of Boulder. Les

Michigan is an open carry state also, just have to be careful of City Ordinances. The list is to long to put on here. I handgun hunt in Michigan, only reason I applied for a CCW, they require it from your state if you are using a handgun. God I love reciprocity. Les

I am not either resident or citizen of U.S. I can only get UT and NH's ccw,in Michigan there requires resident permit. so no way to carry for me.
BTW, r u dual citizen? I love your avatar:p

No, but am probably going to move North after the wife retires from the Military. Getting stoopid down here. All I have to do is convince her the NWT is a great place, or if she ever gets sick of me. :D Les

All yo can do for now is transport through Michigan in a locked case not readily accessible to the drivers compartment.

Hey violator;

I lived in Denver (Aurora) for a couple of years. I always wondered about driving on I-70 or I-25 through Denver proper. I never found out and the chances of getting pulled over on the Interstate are slim but would there stupid domain law apply there?

Not supposed to, but, I don't push the issue. But unfortunately yes they do apply, if pulled over by a City or County LEO, State Patrol will let you go. Been thru that ringer, thats why mine is on the dash when I go there now. Les

Huh!? Care to explain?

18 USC 922(y)(2) restricts non-immigrant aliens to possessing firearms for "sporting purposes" only, unless you have the authority of the US Attorney General, which you can't even apply for unless you've been in the US for at least six months. And if you're there as a tourist, you can only be in the US for up to six months, hence the time limit.

That's not to say you can't get a carry permit (subject to State law, most States that issue them require you to be a US resident and/or citizen and to prove it, but not all, e.g. Utah), and carry a loaded handgun on you, but under federal law you can only do it for "sporting purposes".

What would happen if you shot someone in self-defence as a non-immigrant alien who has a carry permit is an interesting question. Depends on whether the Feds notice, I suspect. Since it's never happened, it's a question that can't be answered.
