Is every 22lr pistol unreliable ?

Some 22 pistols are very reliable. I have a pair of Ruger Mk1s and used them for years as my main target pistols. I shoot stnd vel lead round nose and can't recall the guns misfiring or jamming. I clean them once a year.

Some pistols tend to be very fussy (like the S&W41) and you have to try various ammo brands in it to find what works.

The ISSC M22 can be made to work but you need to do some tweaking, and the majority of them will never be 100% reliable.

That being said, they are good enough for shooting beer cans.

I wouldn’t recommend you buy one new, they aren’t worth $320 plus tax. I wouldn’t pay more than $250 for one.

Also, if you are buying one used ask the seller to send you a film clip of it firing at least 50 rounds. If he refuses then walk away.

Here’s a video of the one I have for sale:

my ISSC M22 Always misfire, shell Ejection issues.
I use CCI minimag 40gr

Well cheap ones are. But asking is every 22 unreliable, when only referring to one. Is like asking is every car junk?

Browning Buckmarks, Rugers are very reliable handguns. You get even more reliability when you start running into 22LR revolvers.

Op, that gun is probably the most unreliable 22 ever. Dump it and geta GSG 1911 most better gun.
My GSG 1911 hasn't been very reliable regardless of ammo. One type works less poorly.

I just purchased a Sig 1911-22, which is said to be the same gun as the GSG 1911, and ran 150 rounds of various brands of ammo and it worked flawlessly right out of the box with no cleaning. I used Blaser RN, Federal Black HP, Winchester M22, Winchester xpert HP and Remington golden bullet. It didn't miss a beat. First time out to the range with it so I cant speak to longevity. Maybe it was was just beginners luck, but so far, Im impressed with reliability. As for groupings, we’ll that is a different story. The Blaser and Federal grouped fairly well, the others not so much. No wild flyers, but not consistent. I’ll try CCI mini mags next time out and see if it groups better

My Gsg has proved reliable..did the zrts kit upgrade..and only shoot federal bulk..no issues...hates winchester white box...

A prior post on finding the right ammo is key. I have some 1960's and 1970's that do best with standard velocity. Browning Nomad, Challenger or Medalist from that era all run perfectly if they're kept clean (max 500 rounds before clean). The point about the Brownings is (as said by another here) they are purpose built 22's not clones or look alikes. Ruger would be great.

I have a Beretta 92FS .22 and love it. Same size and functionality as the 9mm. I've put over500 rounds of various ammo through it. CCI mini mags, Federal black box and a bunch of Bass Pro Herter's brand cheap bulk .22 and it eats it all without a hiccup. If you want a .22 that replicates a service/combat type pistol I recommend the Beretta.

Ruger MK1/2 are great, High Standard are great, lots of them out there on the used market.
Thing with GSG/ISSC, they build them to look cool, not for longevity or reliably. Even if you got one that works 100% out if the box, it would break down way too soon.

I had a Browning Challenger that I shot for 30 years and never had an issue. I also have a CZ .22lr Kit on a CZ 75 frame that is reliable as tomorrows sunrise. Both of these guns shot everything I put in them. I have heard the Berettas, the Rugers and the Browning Bucks are extremely reliable as well.

Buy any of these and you will be worry free.

Take Care

Bob
ps If you have to tinker with a factory gun to make them run you bought the wrong gun.

my mk iv tactical failed to eject quite regularly until I replaced the extractor... my old mk2 never had an issue. Some of the lubes on the bullets were hanging up the mags though. Have a Beretta 71, was supposed to come with 4 mags, seller only sent 1 so far, that was several months ago now, I should check back with him. Worked well enough after I re profiled the feed ramp and extractor Groove in the bbl.

My Beretta 71 runs like a top. So does my Ruger Mk. I.
I get the impression that the little Beretta is as reliable as a good centerfire.

Had an Ruger SR22 pistol worked well,

Have a buckmark which also works well, although the sight base screws can come loose causing light strikes

My S&W M&P22 eats pretty much anything in 3000+ rounds and the only failures are ammo related like FTF, 1 in a few hundred. Blazer 22LR at @7 cents a round is cheap and cheerful although CCI MiniMags work just fine if one is pushing the boat out.
