Is every 22lr pistol unreliable ?

Most/ all steel 22 semi's will run 100% if the mags are good and cleaned once in a while, I usually run a mop, or a bush throu them after a shoot
GSG's are not steel, Rugers are great, expectantly the older one, New models I have not had, or worked on. MK1 had great trigger, newer, not so much.
My theory, which don't mean much, is if is a double action or wannabe , look at something else, other than the CZ, and the price point on those are high, but quality costs.
I shoot lots of Hi Standards and if the mags are set right they just run, I tuned up a ladies, and she was running it without a extractor, 100 %, her times where faster, I run 200 rounds of st.v. and it was 100 % after I tweaked the mags up.
I shoot a Hammerli 215 international, 22lr and a 230 , 22 short rapid fire for a few yrs and both those had 0 stoppages, as long as the ammo was O.K.
Trade Ex guns , hell of a buy.
I have 22 revolvers, cut my teeth on one 60 yrs ago, but hardly shoot them, center fire one I shoot lots.

Check to make sure that the recoil spring is installed with the larger end forward.

Flush the action out with WD40. Shoot it while it is still wet - this will clean it out - then wipe it down.

Put a little WD40 on your hands before loading the clips - the lube will get onto the bullets and aid in function.

There are lots of reasons for malfunction, but these little things will improve most .22s - rifle or pistol a lot.

My S&W M&P22 eats pretty much anything in 3000+ rounds and the only failures are ammo related like FTF, 1 in a few hundred. Blazer 22LR at @7 cents a round is cheap and cheerful although CCI MiniMags work just fine if one is pushing the boat out.

Same here. I usually put Federal 36gr through mine but it has seen hundreds of rounds of different brands and weights and the only issues I've ever had is with some of the low quality Winchester 333/555 boxes, and that seems to be due to bullets being lose in the case causing it to jam on feeding. My other .22 pistol is a Ruger MKIII 22/45 and results have been the same, low quality Winchester 333/555 jams up occasionally.

My 22lr P226 runs quite well on cci blazers and mini mags. The first 100 rounds had multiple failure to feeds but after that it has been quite reliable. I clean and lube it every 3-400 rounds to keep it working well.

an m93 sportsman (chinese clone of a colt woodsman) is totally reliable.
i have no idea if any are available now but back a while ago they were really inexpensive(say under $200).

Another gun that is quite good is the Russian MCM's a but different, but great guns, not so great with a holster.
I had one that was so dirty come in that the gun would fire when the slide closed because so much crud the trigger and sear would not hook up.
But the gun would load and cycle just fine. It was 20 yrs old or so? and had never been striped down and cleaned.
The browning's are good, though I have not had one in years.
I think the new SW victors seen fine from what I hear and a bit cheaper than the new rugers, the older S-W A22 seem O.K. from the guys that have them take down a bit fiddly.
These days you can get a good Hi Standard for 4-500.oo and you are set for life.
102 and up are great, newest models are 107's There are no more new Hi Standards as they have been out of business for years.

My Gsg has proved reliable..did the zrts kit upgrade..and only shoot federal bulk..no issues...hates winchester white box...

I've considered the zrts kit, would you recommend it?
Federal copper plated bulk is what mine runs best with as well. When the pistol clean (less than 150 rounds from last cleaning) it is almost reliable. after that it gets much worse.

I've found my M&P 22 to be quite reliable, that's the only .22 pistol I have much experience with though. I get the occassional ftf with cheap bulk ammo, but I even get those sometimes with my CZ 452 bolt rifle with that ammo. Using slightly better quality ammo has definitely produced less failure to fire issues so I'm pretty certain, in my case at least, that the few issues I've had have been ammo related ones.

The kit is cheap enough..didn’t make too much difference to accuracy...but I binned the small assembly screw...and the barrel shroud is a better fit..

The Beretta 71 has a well deserved reputation for reliabilty. Mine eats everything except for 333s.

Fans of the Beretta might like the films Munich and The Debt.

Very interested in this. Im now in the market for a .22 pistol. I used a Ruger Hunter last night. Owner had done some trigger work and the firearm was in great condition. Other than being a little heavy it was an exceptional shooter.

I got a CW accessories kit, but I would recommend any of the upgrade kits so you can do away with the screw to disassemble/reassemble it.
