Is gang hunting legal in Alberta???

Thanks for the responses guys. I can't believe AB has a rule against this, but Ontario allows it
Oh well....

Can't believe any province has a rule agianst it. Mind you in ON you have to be in communication with other party members - walkie talkies are legal for this purpose to 5km. Also we're overrun with whitetails in most areas and the yuppies and soccer moms don't like their SUV's hitting deer all the time, so they don't agitate for closed seasons and tighter rules.

The Wildlife Act R.S.A. 2000, c. W-10 provides as follows:

Non-transferability

20 A licence or permit is not transferable unless and except to the extent prescribed.

1984 cW‑9.1 s23;1996 c33 s16

Use of and carrying another’s licence

21(1) A person shall not

(a) allow the person’s licence to be used or carried by another person,

(b) use the licence of another person, or

(c) knowingly carry the licence of another person.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply where the person using or carrying the licence is authorized by or under the licence to hunt.

Hunting without licence

24(1) Subject to subsection (3), a person shall not hunt wildlife unless the person holds a licence authorizing the person, or is authorized by or under a licence, to hunt wildlife of that kind.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to hunting that is specifically authorized by or under the Agricultural Pests Act and, to the extent that subsection (1) applies (a) with respect to guiding, it applies only to guiding for gain or reward, and
(b) with respect to non‑licence wildlife, it applies only to trapping.

(3) A person shall not for gain or reward guide another person hunting wildlife unless he or she holds a licence or has a prescribed authorization specifically authorizing that guiding.

1984 cW‑9.1 s24

I believe that these are the sections (especially s.24) that apply to the question of "gang" or "party" hunting in Alberta. As was mentioned above, there are some licences that allow two people to share a licence, but they're pretty restricted (moose???), as I recall.

Some groups of guys especially when it's a meat hunt will agree to fill up the camp's tags as soon as possible, even if it involves some trading back and forth. It's not really legal, but it's pretty common especially where relatives are concerned.

Personally, if I get a deer 10 min on the first day of a 7 day hunt, I would dedicate the rest of my trip to being useful around camp, helping out with game retrieval and drinking everyones beer.

I would also probably make a big show of sleeping in when everyone else is getting up before dawn and annoying everyone else by giving unwanted advice.
+1 great plan
Maybe not the first day but definatly the second, I would like to keep a bear tag in my pocket just in case just to avoid becoming the camp B-itch. Thats what the yung-uns are for.
